Easiest way to move database to new platform
#1
Hi,

I am trying to determine the best way to move XBMC databases from system 1 to sytsem 2.

I guess here are my options:
1) Copy entire userdata directory
2) Copy just userdata/database directory
3) Export then Import.

Any recommendations on preferred/correct method?

Also, does an IMPORT whipe a current database, or append? Will duplicates be created?

Thanks.

It depends on what version you're using.

Assuming the paths from each system to the media files remain identical, then transferring the userdata directory as-is will work fine.

If you have a recent version (r29000 or higher) then you can export your video library to a single folder and reimport. This will give you all your thumbs, watched status and so on.

If you have an older version then you can export your library to separate files. Note that this requires write access to your media files, and you will likely lose watched status.

Cheers,
Jonathan
