Win 17.3 refuses to start.
#1
Cannot find a solution to my specific problem, so opening a new thread. Apologies if I have missed a fix.

Originally had version 16 which worked without issue.
Overlayed 17.3 and I would get the first screen, which then closed.
Removed all traces of Kodi and reinstalled 17.3. Problem remains.

This is not the Addons27 issue.

Set the debug switch manually, and below is the output of the Log file:

@Karellen- Log File Removed

Hope someone can help, thank you.

Hello mixolydian and welcome,

Unfortunately I had to modify your post and remove your Log file.

We do not allow log files to be posted directly here in the forum. Rather, they must be posted at a Pastelink type site. You obviously know where the log file is stored, so just follow from step 3 onwards.

6. Upload the results
The log file is named kodi.log and it is located in the Kodi directory described in Step 2 above. It is one level above the \userdata directory in which you modified the advancedsettings.xml file
You must locate this log file and copy it's contents to a pastebin type site as follows:
  1. Navigate to the \kodi directory as described in Step 2, and locate the file named kodi.log
  2. Open the file with Notepad and copy all the contents of the document
  3. Locate a Pastebin type site. Two examples are https://pastebin.com/ or https://paste.ubuntu.com/
  4. Paste the contents of the kodi.log file
  5. Press Paste or Generate
  6. When the screen refreshes with your paste, copy the entire address in the address bar and paste it into a new message in your thread

Hello mixolydian,

I have looked through your log, and didn't have to look too far into it to see the problem.

1. You are using a Dell Inc. Inspiron 1720 which was released mid 2007
2. Graphics is NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT released early 2007 and it would be doubtful if it had drivers that have correctly implemented DX11 API support
3. Your startup process crashes prior to the splash screen.

Basically, your system is too old to run v17.x. Read minimum hardware requirements... http://kodi.wiki/view/Hardware_requirements#Windows

Two options...
1. Upgrade hardware
2. Reinstall v16.x. Download here... http://mirrors.kodi.tv/releases/win32/old/

Hope that helps.

Thank you for your reply.

I did upgrade the NVIDIA driver recently to the 2016 release, as I thought that might be the issue, but obviously the latest driver is still inadequate.
(Although the latest driver does quote DirectX Runtime Version: 11)
The only reason I wanted to run 17.xx release was for the fix for the subtitle issue recently discovered, as it appears you are not going to port this fix into R16.
Thanks for your prompt support.

Steve

Addendum: I lied, it was R15 that I was originally using. R16 exhibits the same issue as R17.xx. I have rolled back to R15 and it is working as before.
