well since you asked (hehe Wink ) how about;

"bios detection"
- maybe ask dysfunction ([email protected]) if he would be willing to share code, his xbox bioschecker (link), is support most.
...otherwise checkout all of nghtshd's bios tools (link) maybe some could be used as base (like xbtool and/or evtool))?

"eeprom mode detection"
- like 'dvd region (dongle?)' and 'games region' (smartxx support those but not sure if they shares it, maybe configmagic do too?)

ps! it would be great if everything above at the things you aready coded could be added to the logs (when it's set to maximum).

...everything bellow might be overkill for xbmc, or? (personaly i approve if they could be added in a safe way for 'advanced-users'):

"eeprom backup/restore" (off-topic for this thread?)
- i think eepromagic was open sourced but not sure where to find it, (though maybe configmagic has all the code that is needed?)

"lock/unlock hdd" (off-topic for this thread?)
- check out team-assembly's ta unlockhdd source code (link) if latest configmagic does not do it better (which i think it do, or?)

"modchip bios flashing" (off-topic for this thread?)
- only if we can get the offical public approval (+ code assistance) from each modchip manufacturer that gets added

yeah, that sounds good. maybe it would look nice if it was displayed in tabs instead, like the kai screen.

something like this perhaps:

status tab:
========
network:
link, ip(type), revicied, sent

video:
720x576 pal 4:3
free memory: 38/64 mb

storage:
drive c, drive d, drive e, drive f, drive g(if there is one)

tempatures:
cpu, gpu, hdd, fan speed

time:
current

xbmc information:
build, mplayer version:

hardware tab:
===========
and all the other information here.

cheers,
granqvist

@Gamester17
- bios detection implementing: <span style='color:red'>no,</span>
- modchip bios flashing implementing: <span style='color:red'>no,</span>
- lock/unlock hdd implementing: <span style='color:red'>no,</span>
i think these feature are unnecessary for xbmc and its to overkill! ever one should now what they have on their xbox! the tsop/modchip detection is enought for xbmc! there are varios flashing tools, evox has done a good job for lpc based modchips, also there are a linux version! and the new generation modchips has their own tools to do that..
reallly we don't need it in xbmc! may be in future..

- eeprom backup and restore implementing: <span style='color:red'>no,</span>
this is a very dangerous feature for noops.. if you want to edit or play with eeprom use configmagic!

- eeprom read varios values: <span style='color:blue'>yes,</span>
it is also currently on my todo list.. if the smart is 100% done, then eeprom will follow:
these will be shown [hope ]we i'm done whith eeprom:
- game region
- dvd region
- serial number
- hdd lock key
- kernel version

may also thinking about detection the devices on the gameports, like gamepad, infrared, mouse, keyboard

@Gamester17
yes, all detected values will be availible in xbmc.log if the debug output is enabled in the xbmc.xml settings.

@Striker
show the complete hdd size should be ok! lets see what i can do..

@pike and granqvist
yes.. hehe, we need more "screen space to show them all" as granqvist mentioned.. may tabbed may a nother solution..
the settings structure is changed so may jmarshall will also change the systeminfo screen.. so i can then show my detected results there..

would be enough if move 'xbmc info' (xbmc and mplayer build date/time) into its own root settings section, put 'about xbmc' in there too
...since that is not really system info but xbmc version info, maybe if log-viewing gets added to xbmc gui some day it could be in there too.

that's cool, though personaly as a part-time support-mod i think that "bios detection" would be great as many n00bs don't know it Nod

yeah i'd like bios detection too, in my opinion it should be part of the systeminfo. its not as other functions like lock/unlock and flash which could potentially fuck up a noobs xbox.
shouldnt be more then generating a md5 checksum and comparing that to an external known biosses list. (xml/ini? which every user could modify/extend or submit md5 sums on the forum?)

@Striker
i just reseived a email from dysfunction [12-7-2004], he will relese his work after he had celaup his code.. so till today i dono get it..

@all
the s.m.a.r.t function is now blowed up to read all possible values from the hdd!

so the question to all is:
should we make a new window for hdd s.m.a.r.t values ?

possible values from the following table can be shown, normly 10 values are enough, if the hdd support them:
Quote:-raw read error rate
-throughput performance
-spin up time
-start/stop count
-reallocated sector count
-read channel margin
-seek error rate
-seek time performance
-power-on hours count
-spin-up retry count
-calibration retry count
-power cycle count
-soft read error rate
-g-sense error rate
-power-off retract cycle
-load/unload cycle count
-hda temperature
-hardware ecc recovered
-reallocated event count
-current pending sector count
-off-line scan uncorrectable count
-ultradma crc error rate
-write error rate
-soft read error rate
-data address mark errors
-run out cancel
-soft ecc correction
-thermal asperity rate
-flying height
-spin high current
-spin buzz
-offline seek performance
-disk shift
-g-sense error
-loaded hours
-load/unload retry count
-load friction
-load/unload cycle count
-load-in time
-torque amplification count
-power-off retract count
-gmr head amplitude
-temperature
-head flying hours
-read error retry rate
