New to Linux and XBMC

While trying to spec out a HTPC, I came to the conclusion that XBMC Live seemed the best method to get an introdction to XBMC and keep the price down.

I don't know my way around Linux but I am confident with command lines and editing configs and scripts as long as I'm following directions. With all that in mind I think Live is the way to go.

I intend to install live on the HTPC Hard Disk. The questions I have are pretty basic (I hope). Is there a way to shell out of XBMC to the Linux OS ? I want to be able to run Skype at certain times. My research shows know Skype add-on for XBMC but as long there is an easy way to launch skype I can survive.

Same with a browser session, is there an add on that will launch firefox or chrome ? Or again an easier way to shell out and run the browser ?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the links. I was specifically asking about XBMC Live. If I need to do a full Ubuntu install then it will probably have to wait a while. I'll go the Windows route where I know my way around and play with Ubuntu in my spare time.

While you CAN do stuff like that with live, I wouldn't really recommend it if you have no linux experience. A full desktop is the much easier solution in this case, since you don't have to worry about the specifics of the live image.
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.
