HTPC build with new ASUS AT5IONT-I
liquidskin76 Wrote:In case anyone is curious, i've just made a build using the AT5IONT-I and an OrigenAE M10 case (http://www.origenae.com/en/htpc_m10.htm). Build also includes a passive ATI 5450.

Running without fans, i get an idle temp of 58c. Haven't really stressed it to much as it's a htpc only (obviously running XBMC until dxva kicks in!), so the temps haven't really climbed from the idle temp.

Cheers

Wow! My money no object option :-).

Hi.

I've just finished my setup based on this motherboard, and want to share my experience. This is the components I've used :
  • SuperCase MW-100 mini-ITX case (MW-100)
  • ASUS AT5IONT-I, Atom D525
  • Corsair Value DDR3 SO-DIMM 1333MHz 2GB x 2
  • Deltaco CF-SATA - CompactFlash Card-adapter - SATA
  • Sandisk 4 GB CF-card
  • SilenX fan, iXtrema PRO IXP-34-08,60x60x25mm, 17m³/time, 8 dB(A)

All in all I had no problems what so ever with the build and initial use, but I soon ran into heat-issues due to the small case. I then added the fan this weekend, had to mod the case a little to get it to fit, but now all is well :-)

The heat-issues was the GPU beeing at 85 C when the box was idle. After adding the fan, the gpu temp is down to 50C and the box is not making any noise what so ever :-D

Hope this will help someone looking to try using this MB.

Hey gents,

I have the same problems due to incompatible RAM with a 2x2GB GeIL DDR SODIMM RAM. However, I'm hoping that I can fix this by upgrading the bios.

To do this I need atleast a 1GB that is absolutely sure to work on the oldest RAM version, can someone tell me which 1GB RAM module works on the old RAM?

Thanks,

Dennis

Hi....

Regarding the ASUS AT5IONT-I

I have reading all pages and still I'm not sure sbout some things and therefore I hope for some help.

2. Is there someone who can tell me about the Realtek onboard soundcard. Can this handle digital and Analog output at the same time?

3. It's my plan to use this board to build a HTPC. My connections would go like this - please let me know if it not possible.
* The digital soundoutput SPDIF should go to my Logitech Z5500 (Hope for Dolby Digital output?)
* The Analog output should go out from minijack at the backpanel?
* The HDMI should be used for the picture to the television.

4. Hope this isn't a stupid question. But can I see 3D material with this motherboard? - I have a 3D ready TV....... After my undestanding should the Video prgram (PowerDVD)support 3D. But I have also seen that only HDMI 1,4 is capable to show 3D?..... I can't find anywhere which HDMI version this motherboard have.

I assume Logitech Z5500 has a built in amplifier as I write this...

I have an older Yamaha AV receiver that I use with my setup, so I have SPDIF going from the MB to the receiver and HDMI to my TV. No problems with that setup, at least under Dharma Beta 4.

Dont know if you can have both SPDIF and analog out at the same time...

Thanks for your reply....

I have a older ITX MB with the Realtek ALC888 and this soundcard have both digital and analog out at the same time. But I don't know with the ALC887, like this on the ASUS MB?

I cannot get Dolby Digital to work on my Z5500 with the ALC888 SPDIF out. It is only the Pro Logic II signal Z5500 can deliver..... which I can't undestand because both Z5500 and Realtek ALC888 can normally deliver DD?

Good news, I got my RMA-ed motherboard back last Thuesday. The bad news, I didn't have time to play with it, yet! Rolleyes
Oh, and more good news, they updated the BIOS, so it does work now, with 4GB recognized in Windows 7, 64 bit.

I wrote two posts about it.
HTPC Update and HTPC: Installing the ASUS AT5IONT-I. Only covering the hardware and software installation at the moment.
In a new article, planned for later this week, I will test the board for playback, power consumption, heat. If you have anything you want me to test, feel free to ask, and I'll try to test it.

One small spoiler for the upcoming article: The right software can make or break your HTPC.

lyder Wrote:Hi Romain and whatnot. I have the same problem with my Asus AT5IONT-I board - no HDMI sound. When typing "aplay -l" i get the same result as whatnot - no HDMI found.

aplay -l

Romain - do you have a asound.conf file in your /etc folder?

You need the latest sound drivers installed to get nvidia sound over HDMI working. Under ubuntu 10.04 i installed the linux-backports-modules-alsa package, that made about 4 nvidia devices show up ( but they didn't work ).

Then i add this to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

options snd-hda-intel probe_mask=0xffff,0xfff2

and now one HDMI device shows up and it works after unmuting it in the mixer.

Hi Everyone,

I've just bought this board, and plan on using it with XBMC live. I've never used XBMC before though, and wondered if it was fairly straight forward to install on this board.

I've also noticed some people on this thread seem to be using XBMCfreak? what's the difference and why use this over the normal one?

A little bit later then originally planned, but my article: HTPC: Testing the ASUS AT5IONT-I is finally done.

The most interesting part while testing was the temperature. With and without an additional fan, there was almost a difference of 40 degrees Celsius Shocked
As also said in the article, it can run fine with the high temperatures, although I haven't test hours and hours playback with these temperatures so I don't know the long term influence, but I would recommend a casefan.

Hello Smile

I've lurked for weeks this forum hoping to find a good answer to my big question: "I would like to have a small pc I can use to watch 1080p movies, iso and folders. What do I have to buy?"

Firstly I was thinking to buy a popcorn hour c-200. Then I moved to an xTreamer. Then to a WD hd live. Then to a Shuttle XS35GT. I thought this was the best choice until I found the ASUS AT5IONT-I mini-itx mobo. This is what I bought:
  • Part No : 90-MIBDJ0-G0EAY0KZ , Description : AT5IONT-I , Quantity : 1
  • Part No : VL52021N2ED , Description : Thermaltake Element Q Mini Chassis (Black) , Quantity : 1
  • Part No : HDS722020ALA330 , Description : Deskstar 7K2000 2TB SATA-II 7200rpm , Quantity : 1
  • Part No : KVR1333D3S9/2G , Description : 2GB, 1333MHz, DDR3, Non-ECC, CL9, SODIMM , Quantity : 2
  • Part No : 761345-75121-6 , Description : TriCool 120 DBB Fan , Quantity : 1
  • Part No : S-FLEX120800 , Description : S-FLEX 120mm Fan (800 RPM, SFF21D) , Quantity : 1
  • Part No : SVP100S2B/64GR , Description : Kingston SSDNow V+100 Upgrade Bundle Kit - Solid state drive - 64 GB - 2.5" - SATA-300 , Quantity : 1

I'm going to installa Win7 64 and XBMC on a different partition.

What do you think?

Hi,

the board is excellent. Though I'm having problems with a
pci-e card i plugged in. It does not show up in lspci on
linux and is therefore not recognized by the system. i bought
a tbs 6920[0]. Is the card not compatible with the pci-e
slot in the at5iont-i?

You should check out http://www.nwware.com they have nice cases for those fanless AT3IONT-I Deluxe and will replace with AT5IONT-I Deluxe when that goes onto market.
