I keep reading about how Habey makes a Broadcom Crystal HD Video Accelerator - here's the product page: http://www.habeyusa.com/products_show.php?id=315&menu=1
Can this be used in place of the (actual Broadcom) BCM70012?
Do the OSX drivers hosted at http://code.google.com/p/crystalhd-for-osx/ work for the HABEY card?
My understanding is the HABEY card is essentially the same as the "old layout" of the Broadcom BCM70012.
Can anyone shed some light on this...as all I can find is the HABEY cards available for sale...the Broadcom is backordered/not available?
Much thanks!!

Both OSX and Linux driver/lib/firmware at crystalhd-for-osx will work fine with the HB-VD904. http://www.logicsupply.com/categories/ac...s/adapters has both new layout bcm70012 and bcm70015. Thanks for the quick response Davilla.
Is the BCM70015 "better" than the BCM70012? Sounds like they will all function the same and the OSX drivers work with all. I thought I had read somewhere that the "new" card was an "improved version". Thoughts? I'm excited about the potential to finally view higher data-rate videos on the ATV. The wife hasn't exactly been thrilled with the dropped frames in the 720p stuff. I'm trying to sort through all the posts on installation - does the auto-installer work still? Can you point me towards the "current" threads on installation... Again, much thanks UPDATE - Never mind...found this post that explains it nicely: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=70283&page=2

The bcm70015 also has an internal up/down scaler. MediaInfo : http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/ Do not e-mail XBMC-Team members directly asking for support. Read/follow the forum rules. |

Thanks again for the comparison link Davilla.
I think I'm sold on getting the newer BCM7001515 but just discovered LogicSupply wants a boatload of cash to ship it to Canada...not to mention I "may" get charged extra in the form of duties. I know I'll end up paying the taxes on import... Any Canadian suppliers you might be aware of? Newegg.ca carries the Habey for the same price (where this post started) but I can't find anyone selling the actual Broadcom cards over here. Thanks in advance. |

I managed to buy a BCM70012 new layout off eBay recently for $50 including shipping and there are offers for both 70012 and -015 so keep looking. Also for Canadians newegg does sell Habey card but you'll pay the taxes too. So once again there is no free cheese.
