Dropping FPS and crashing debug log playing both mkv and avi (possibly VDA related)

idioteque Wrote:ok thanks for the quick response.

Any thoughts on the skipping part ? or is more info required like logs and or specs ?

I'd need a sample to investigate further.

http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
https://bugreport.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebO.../wa/signIn

I have sent the report using both links.

Please, can do everyone who is encountering the same problem on the mini 2010 do the same?

We need to inform Apple about the problem, and the more people chime in the more likely it gets that the problem will be fixed some day.

Cheers,

Chris

... just to keep you up to date:

I got response from Apple. A technician asked me to provide further details about my configuration.

At least Apple seems to be aware of the problem now.

Downloaded 10.6.3. Did a clean install. SABNZB and XBMC only, no OSX or any other updates from Apple installed. A clean 10.6.3 from internet.

DVA off = no frames dropped what so ever, except 1 during start file. The only time frames are dropped is when CPU gets above 98%.

DVA on = frames dropped. 1080p or 720p. 1080 is worse. dropped frames and CPU seems no relation. What does seem a relation is fast image difference. Say light to dark or scene changes in a movie with high contrast., indoor outdoor.

I think that the log says this when frames are dropped:

Interesting .. it seems idioteque and I were playing the exact same video and getting the "CPullupCorrection" messages.

My setup is Apple TV with CrystalHD (3.6.0).

@davilla: I have PM'ed you the link for the sample.

The weird thing is. I also own an Apple Mac Book Pro late 2009 and with VDA on using the same build, ( Darmha Beta 2) there is no frame dropping. 1080p earth is no problem, same goes for any other mkv. And it runs 10.6.4

So, what is the difference between a mbp 2009 and an mini 2009?

Mini: (10.6.3)
Nvidia GeForce 9400M using 256 MiB of DDR3 SDRAM

MPB: (10.6.4)
Nvidia GeForce 9400M with 256 MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory and Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT with 256 MB or 512 MB of GDDR3 SDRAM (default I use the 9600mGT for grahpics)
MBP late 2009 - TimeCapsule 2TB - Harmony One+ - Readynas NV+ 8TB RAID5 - Mac Mini late 2009 with 10.9.0 and VDA - Panasonic TX-PG420ES -

How much physical RAM on each. OSX will share memory with the GPU and the amount is determined by how much total RAM is present.

The mbp has 4gb 1067 Mhz DDR3
The mini has 2gb 1067 Mhz DDR3

Any more info required to solve this?

Should be plenty, you do make the comment "default I use the 9600mGT for grahpics", does that mean you run the 9600 under XBMC on the mbp and 9400 on the mini ?

MBP
In the Sys pref under Energy I select preformance. Under XBMC-> system info the 9600m GT is used with OpenGL 2.1 NVIDIA-1.6.18

Mini:
Here in XBMC 9400 is used with OpenGL 2.1 NVIDIA 1.6.10

Perhaps a different driver makes up for the difference ?

installing 10.6.4 on the mini did not solve the problem of dropped freames

Use the 9400 under the mpb, then you are comparing apples to apples. right now you are comparing xbmc under the 9400 to xbmc under the 9600.

running the 9400 under the mpb makes everything run smooth.

I tried one last thing to see what the difference could be and I had to reboot the mini.

After reboot and playing the mkv, all of a sutton it plays smooth.

A few things i noticed:

1: The mini had a uptime of about 2 weeks and is put to sleep 3-4 times a day.
2: Sometimes the mini is turned on or woken from sleep before the TV is turned on
3: The mini is connected through display port DVI-HDMI to HDMI port on the TV
4: the TV is a Panasonic 42PG20ES Full HD plasma TV from 2010

THE slight slowing and speeding of the FPS still seems to be there as is a few dropped frames here and there ( say 1 every 10-15 min)

Perhaps the long uptime or a combination with the waking up from sleep without a valid HDMI/Displayport signal could be a cause of the dropping frames ?

I have just updated XBMC to 34731. My Crystal HD version is 3.6.0.
I am getting "CPullUpCorrection" messages in the log when the playback will stutter or be out of sync. for a few seconds.

I can reproduce it by:

1. at the beginning of playback.
2. when seeking forward/backward.
