... nope, according to XBMC both files are h.264 (Terminator salvation and Astronaut Farmer).

I've the new macmini and the 10.6.4 update 
and there is no option to enable vdpau in Dharma Beta, I have to "downgrade" to 10.6.3 to get this option?

Playback is very choppy, even with HW accelaration enabled.
Plays smoothly in Plex .9

I reverted back (once more) to 10.6.3 in order to check those two files. Result: SW-playback choppy, HW-playback smooth.
I' m going to get the mediainfo of those files tomorrow.

VDA is in XBMC not the OS...settings --> System --> Video --> Playback

If you observe the same problem with your mac mini, please post in the above mentioned thread. i hope this makes it more likely that apple fixes this bug in an upcoming OS X service pack.

... I just found out that not all VC1 encoded files cause the choppy playback problem. It seems that the 'Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles' are also encoded in VC1 (source for extracting the mkvs were the german BDs).
Playback of these mkvs is quite smooth, just a little hick-up once in a while.
