Dropping FPS and crashing debug log playing both mkv and avi (possibly VDA related)

For your mkvs that play choppy during software playback, I'm willing to bet that they are VC1s and not h.264...

... nope, according to XBMC both files are h.264 (Terminator salvation and Astronaut Farmer).

ix400 Wrote:... did you already get the mini?

btw, i found a second mkv muxed from a BD that can't be properly played with dharma+mac mini 2010: Astronaut Farmer.

Playback is very choppy, even with HW accelaration enabled.

Plays smoothly in Plex .9

Cheers,

Chris

... with 10.6.5 10H535.

I reverted back (once more) to 10.6.3 in order to check those two files. Result: SW-playback choppy, HW-playback smooth.

I' m going to get the mediainfo of those files tomorrow.

I opened a thread about the mac mini 2010 hardware accelaration issue with 10.6.4 directly in the apple forums:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa...&#12248208

If you observe the same problem with your mac mini, please post in the above mentioned thread. i hope this makes it more likely that apple fixes this bug in an upcoming OS X service pack.

Cheers,

Chris

... I just found out that not all VC1 encoded files cause the choppy playback problem. It seems that the 'Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles' are also encoded in VC1 (source for extracting the mkvs were the german BDs).

Playback of these mkvs is quite smooth, just a little hick-up once in a while.
