Watching movies on my television through network
#1
Hello all,

My problem is simple as it is complicated (to me at least it is).
I have files (movies) on my computer that i want to access on my television (aka view movies). The computer and the television are both on a LAN-network.

I thought XBMC might solve this problem, as i found the description on fan.tv that this program makes it a piece of cake to watch any movies from your computer on your television.
So i read the wiki-information, scrolled this forum... only to find that i really don't understand what to do - i don't understand anything about this computerlanguage.

Hence my question;
1. Is it possible with XBMC to view movies from my computer through the network on my television?
2. How do i set it up? aka is there a tutorial for nubs like myself, who don't understand too much computer-talk?

My computer has Windows XP SP3.
Television: Sony KDL-32EX500

Thanks in advance for an understandable answer.

XBMC doesn't stream the video to a television. You still need to connect the television to the computer's video output.

does plenty on network I would guess via DLNA so a upnp DLNA compliant server should do trick. As for how-tos google.

There is a standard called DLNA for devices to share media. Your TV is DLNA compatible (according to the Sony web site) and XBMC can act as a DLNA server; see http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=UPn...ce_in_XBMC

As far as XBMC is concerned I think it's just a matter of going into settings, Network, Services and enabling "Share music and video libraries through uPnP". You'll need to check your TV manual for how you get it to connect to your XBMC PC.
