How to launch .xbo or other "executable"?

i'm new to xbmc and python. i dug around as much as i can to find out any sort of way to launch a *.xbo file directly from a python script.

any pointers to more detailed documentation would be appreciated. i have reviewed all of alexpoet's stuff and did a quick run through most of the python installation (*.py) with little luck. heck i even asked on irc with no luck at all.
