Is that setting anyway available to skinners? If not it would be a good way for us to have things appear as if the skin automatically detects whether someone is using banners or posters...

It seems like in the interim you could create a script to scan the image files at startup, return exif info about each, and if width is greater then height for more than say %50, set banner setting to on, or prompt to ask to set it on, if it's not already on.
