I am open to many options right now, but here are my requirements:

Compact size (pre-built or small case)
1080p playback
Audio over HDMI
Cool / quiet (bedroom use)
Wireless remote ( i currently use a media center IR remote and it works great)

What are the latest options available at this point? I need to build/buy 2 of these so would like to keep it somewhat low cost. I don't need to do any gaming on these, they are strictly being used for media streaming.

Pretty much any ION or ION2 nettop meets those requirements.

In addition to the Zbox poofyhair recommended, the Zbox HD-ID11, Acer 1600 or 3600 (which are getting tough to find, but they're out there), Shuttle XS35-GT are all good. There is also a new Zotac, and a new Acer that were recently announced.

To be honest, there are thousands of threads about nettops on these forums, if you just browse around even the first couple of pages you'll see lots of information.

There are quite a few threads that mention the 3600/3610 differences, but essentially the major points are the 3610 has wireless N and optical spdif out.
