Slowness loading videos over network
#1
I'm having an issue where for some time now, I've experienced very slow load times for certain videos. I'm running linux on a macmini, with the files being shared via sshfs. I have a broadcom crystalhd card as well. I've noticed that when it happens, the host computer shows a lot of network traffic, basically pegging the 100 meg for the length of time it takes to start the movie, once the movie starts, the network traffic drops down to normal. Playing the same file via command line results in the file being playing immediately with no abnormal network activity.

This doesn't crash the xbmc box per se, but is annoying. I've noticed that disabling the crystalhd card helps but not completely.

I've posted mediainfo for Iron Man 2, which is always behaving so, here:

http://pastebin.com/EwaHNK2p

I did this from the host computer, not the xbmc box, I can redo if need be.

This doesn't really cause XBMC to crash, but I can provide a crashlog if need be.

This isn't constant for all files, I've almost never had this happen with TV shows but low res/high res doesn't seem to make a difference.

Using XBMC beta2, r33681

I don't think it's a server/sharing issue, as only xbmc is showing this behavior. This is also fairly recent behavior, within the past couple of months.

My apologies, I should have realized. I have more info as well.

I had started playing Iron Man 2 earlier, when I tried again, it played right away, hardly any pause (1-2 sec), I put xbmc in debug mode and tried The Sweetest Thing (mediainfo here: http://pastebin.ca/1939288), same issue, maybe 10 minutes to load. Then I switched back to Iron Man 2, same issue. XBMC debug log here: http://pastebin.ca/1939290

Thank you for any attention you can give this.

I noticed an error regarding mplayer on line 665, I changed my default player from mplayer to externalplayer from http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW...a_playback and restarted XMBC and was able to play both of those files with no problem right after the other. Looks like it was a bad defaultplayer in my settings, I'll update if I run into any problems, thanks for the debug tip, will make a note Smile

Your log indicates that some files are hard to read: Operation.Endgame.2010.720p.bluray.x264.dts-wiki.mkv for instance.

This was the cause of both of your issues. My guess is that that file is corrupt in some way.

Cheers,
Jonathan

You are absolutely right, the external player changes I made didn't help, just seemed too, only after I removed those files did my playback of Iron Man 2 work perfectly. Thanks a lot for your help.
