Passthrough in videos

Hi guys,

I wonder how I can turn down or up the volume during watching a movie.
Everytime I hit the down button on my apple remote a small menu entry pops open which says in red letters "pass through".
Whats that suppose to mean?

While I'm watching a different video the volume control works fine.

any ideas?

It means XBMC is sending the ac3/dts audio directly over spdif/hdmi without decoding, you need to use the volume control on your receiver or uncheck ac3 and dts capable receiver in audio settings, but in case of spdif everything gets downmixed to stereo.
