ATV crash/hang when opening picture folder
#1
Sad
Hi All,

Just using XBMC on my ATV for the first time and it's great - almost got everything set up, and just added our family photos folder to "Pictures" (located on a Windows network over a 802.11g connection). I can browse the photos folder (which just has sub-folders in), and the sub-folders with pictures in them get the pictures showing up in the folder thumbnail, but when I open any folder (regardless of whether it has photos and/or folders in) it hangs.

My ATV is running 3.0.1, with XBMC 9.11 and Launcher 3.2.5

any thoughts?

The interesting part is obviously the last line, although I'm not sure if the line "ERROR: Missing or invalid <name> and/or <path> in source" is important too??

It appears that it's not crashing at all, but instead taking a long time to time-out doing *something* before opening a folder. If I just click once and wait 60 seconds it will open the folder. If I then click on an image to view to sits there for only about 10 seconds this time before opening the image, and also adding a similar line to the log file:

Code:
23:33:15 T:43364864 M:  3178496  NOTICE: ES: Client  from 127.0.0.1 timed out

Any hints from here?

"Built on Dec 23 2009 (SVN:26018)", ancient history now. Try the Dharma beta2 at http://mirrors.xbmc.org/nightlies/osx/

Thanks again davilla,

As I'm new to this it took a little searching to find out how to get the new beta2 into my ATV, (for other novices reading this, see http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=67078).

I get pretty much the same problem as before, still with the "ES: Client from 127.0.0.1 timed out" in the log from time to time, but I think now that it's had a chance to cache thumbnails and/or because I'm more aware that it's a taking-a-long-time issue rather than a hanging issue, it's at least semi-usable.

It can take a good 30 seconds to open a folder I haven't opened before - there's a downloading progress bar that appears after that and takes about 10sec, but some times there's also the ~30-second wait before that where it seems to hang.

Also moving from one photo to the next when viewing them full-screen takes consistently 10 seconds. Is this just because they're 10mp images over a wireless 802.11g network (with good signal strength)?? (about 2.5mb each). If this is the case I'll move them all to the ATV hard disk... maybe even make a script to shrink them to my TV res instead of 4000x3000 so they don't take 60GB of space needlessly on the device and don't take 18hrs to move there over the wireless connection... I guess it would make sense to be able to sync this as well to make it easy when new images are added... Is there some script/utility around already that does this sort of syncing?

Please let me know if these big delays sound "normal" for my setup, or if it seems like I must have something wrong still. Any ideas what the "ES: Client from 127.0.0.1 timed out" is referring to? (it's connecting over a Windows XP network)

"ES: Client from 127.0.0.1 timed out" -> event server. Ignore it, that's not your problem.
