Video playback jerky/stuttery after a few days!
#76
By the way I get this error as well on only 1 of my XBMC boxes. Ironically enough it's not one that goes into standby. The 2 that go into standby work fine. All win7 32 bit.

Using my MCE remote through the IR receiver built into my Antec Fusion case (i.e. not the plug-in usb receiver that came with the remote) - set up with the latest imon manager software (which comes with xbmc options for the remote and LCD/VFD display).

Same story here:

Had Ubuntu 9.04 with an older XBMC running without problems (uptime of the machine was multiple months).

Since I upgraded to the latest Ubuntu and latest XBMC I noticed that after a few days the HD-activity was out of control. Using 'top' i noticed that the kswapd proces was taking almost 100% of cpu and io time (resulting in skipped frames when watching a movie).

After a reboot all is well again for a few days.

At the moment there's some video playing on my xbmc-machine (x264 codec in case that matters). I ssh to the xbmc-machine and look at 'top'. I notice that my used memory slowly crawls up from 1.3GB tot 1.5GB in one hour.

I guess that if I keep playing stuff, the memory usage will keep on growing, after which my swap will be used. When that's full the kswapd kicks in and the machine grinds to a halt.

This is a very default xbmc intall, with a few hundred movies, some 4k mp3s and 1000+ tv-episodes in the library. The media itself is distributed on 5 disks (sata and usb).

A little extra: when the memory is gobbled up and I start playing some low quality tv-series in a queue the first one will play rather fine, but the second one will have completely distorted audio. Idem for a music playlist. This did never happen with the older xbmc and it doesn't happen as long as I have memory to spare.

Edit: Noticed that I posted in the Windows section. sorry. Anyway, the problem seems to happen on different platforms Smile

My specs are Athlon dual core of some sort (socket 939), 2GB DDR2, ATI HD5450 and Windows 7 64 bit.

As a temporary 'fix' I'm going to try using a freeware program called Hibernate Trigger. Will instruct it to close xbmc immediately before going into suspend mode and to run xbmc when coming out of suspend mode.

Could a dev please provide an update? http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/10628

As I understand it we are currently without a dev who specialises in DXVA. I'm sure any volunteers would be welcome. For my own part I don't know anything about DXVA, and until extra hours are added to the day I won't be looking into this area.

People reported that it happens on both software as DXVA, so it doesn't seem to be a decoding issue, but a timing issue (I know that 2-3 second stutter interval, it happens with framerate mismatch between tv and input). Anyway, haven't experienced this issue myself, and am working on DXVA stuff ...

I have had this problem with stuttering video after sleep for several or more version releases. I've actually setup a button on my universal remote to close xbmc and restart it to fix the problem...err...fix the symptoms. windows 7 64-bit amd proc, 32GB RAM, 2TB hdd and nvidia vdd...

Same problem here.

Using an ATI videocard that I use for sound also. Got a feeling it has something to do with the sound settings.

Though rebooting the computer aitn fixing the problem. So XBMC is as good as useless for me now Sad

See http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Win...udioEngine

Key point with ATI graphics is not to use the Realtek HD Audio driver for sound over HDMI, you must used the ATI/AMD High Definition Audio drivers.

Try 14.0 Alpha 2. They finally fixed this problem!!!! Big Grin

My system has been powered for 13 days 10 hours straight and the video is still smooth and normal as it was when I first rebooted the computer. It used to lag and get jerky after just a couple days with the earlier versions.

I've been battling this issue for years as has everyone else. But finally the frame rate seems to be fixed.
