Black screen with dxva2
#16
Ok, forgot about that....

Debug Log here:
http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/515085/

I set video to dxva2 in settings and then started a video. Black screen, kept it running for a few seconds and then looked up de Debug Log.

Anyone?

First things first - you're gonna have to switch to an official build. Only those on the official rep are supported, particularly by the devs - see here for last posted build http://mirrors.xbmc.org/nightlies/win32/. Try that, with debugging enabled and try to play a file.

Ok, I had Dharma beta 3, but I downloaded and installed:
xbmc-r33300-Dharma.exe (no skins, just to be sure)

Still having the black screen

Debug Log here:

Firstly my apologies - When I looked at your debug log it shows the build number as 34730, which I assumed might have been downloaded from an unofficial build site. However I just checked my own log and the Beta 3 log shows the build number as 34730, despite the nightly download mirror showing 34731. Sorry, your original debug will hopefully prove sufficient for someone to chip in with some help.

I made a couple changes that may help. Can you try a trunk release after r34816 and post a debug log? From http://www.sshcs.com/xbmc/ unless you can build your own.

FYI your last log was not debug. No need to post that one again though.

Hi CrystalIP,

Thank you for your effort to help, the latest build for Windows I can find on http://www.sshcs.com/xbmc/ is r34793
Where can I find r34816 (I think I overlooked it)?

Probably a noob question, but what is a trunk release?

On that site I think that trunk builds are the non-Dharma ones.

Since the change was made yesterday, you need to wait until they release a new build, with a number >= 34816.

Bas_h78 - No useful help from me. I just wanted to say that I came from my neighbours place and he just bought an Acer Laptop with the same specs as you posted in your original post and we are having the exact same problem. Subscribed and looking forward to a resolution!

Stupid question, but what am I doing wrong??

Which type of install I try XBMC will not start

I installed the XBMC_PCInstaller_34851 (also all the other versions except the dharma ones). Installation goes well, but when I want to start XBMC, nothing happens (I am on a x64 machine)

Any thoughts?

You try uninstalling first? If so, you've rebooted in between? If so uninstall then manually delete the directories including "C:\Users\YOURNAMEGOESHERE\AppData\Roaming\XBMC" ?

You know, after reading this older thread I am beginning to suspect this is more an ATI driver issue. I hope not as I recommended this laptop to my neighbour! LOL

Most if not all of the issues in that thread have since been resolved - wouldn't worry too much about them. Similarily so, this issue of Bas's has all but been eradicated as well, from desktop cards at any rate. No comfort I know to Bas, but I think he is the first person to post issues, with a laptop with an ATI card

@ Bas - If you downloaded those builds from the sshcs site, I think you'll find in the comments that his Win32 builds are broken at the moment - though why he continues to post them is beyond me. Might just have to be a bit more patient, before you can test.

Thank you for your info Smile, just tried to install everything again. Could not figure out why it would not start (grrrr)

Waiting for it is no problem, as my laptop has no problem playing full HD over the CPU. But I have a graphic card that supports dxva (at least that is wat ATI states), so I want it to work.

I just spent another 2 hours next door with my neighbour and tried all sorts of different combinations of XBMC and CCC with no luck Bas. No way, no how, can we get DXVA to work without the same issues as you. We absolutely have the latest ATI drivers and DirectX installed and are using Dharma Beta 3.

He has this laptop here:

I think I'm going to have him return it for a model with an Nvidia graphics processor.
