Got my foxconn nt 330i, now what?
#31
sorry sebj, yes, that's what I did on the 7th, did not write that clearly in my posting, and it's dropping frames. my notebook with T9300, 8GB and 8600GT also drops frames when playing in WMP but NOT in VLC, that's why I assume it's a codec-related problem with the files you recorded.

Related?

http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/6051

My resolution's different, but it sounds really familiar.

Guys, little poll here, do you think that if I'd just bend over and order a 4g sodimm that this awkward problem go away. I PM'ed Bobo, and he can play the file, my other gpus all did too... Feeling a "it's not you it's me" vibe hereBlush

I guess they are working on itHuh /sarcasm

Quote:Thank you for supporting Foxconn products.
As you known, the GPU allocation depends on the memory size that you installed, that is, when you installed 1GB stick, the GPU would be allocated as 128mb automatically; when you installed 2GB stick, the GPU would be as 256mb and if you want 512mb, you need to install 4GB stick.
That is, when you installed 4GB memory, you could allocate 512MB onboard video size.
And we have tried allocating 512MB shared memory to onboard VGA card when installing a 2GB RAM in nT-330i.
But it couldn't pass the reliability test, e.g. unstable , BSOD, hang during 3D mark etc.
So we think we shouldn't release a such BIOS to our users.
Thanks for your understanding.
Any other query in the future, please contact us freely.

Might ditch the box completely and get a Boxee box, what a time waster...

@sebj - yeah, I saw this reply posted over at avsforum back in April. Pretty sure they're totally not going to release that support (lame).

Saying that - yeah, it takes a bit of hacking around to get the nt330i to be perfect with everything. But I think that's half the fun for most of us. If we wanted something that just worked with everything we'd spend $600 on a mac mini or something.

the Boxee Box does look sweet...

@sebj: Have you tried playing the "Killa" sample? It's a taxing 42 megabit video you could try to see if there are any dropped frames. My 330i only produces 1 dropped frame each time, so if you may need to check your setup if you experience a lot more.

Hannes, I'm beginning to think that the video was a bad encode. I've tried a few more 1080p files which have played beautifully so far. I'll need something beefy to know for sure, like an Avatar blu-ray rip. =D

Not on this box, no. But the canon dslr video is [email protected] at 45mb/s and the 330i can play that and a bad ass avatar rip when xbmc is at 1080p,

My guess right now is that 24fps/40fps stuff is doable even at 1080p, but 60fps is a stretch. I can hold it almost in 720p system resolution, but it drops frames. At 1080p system, forget 60 fps.... sucks for tv, cool for rips...

Here's to hoping someone gets xbmc running on the boxee box...

I hear that box needs decent software.. ouch.Shocked

and my best guess is that with the videos you are trying to run, we're right at the borders of what VDPAU is supposed to do.

well, I never really had any problems with the videos on my other systems and vdpau was in full effect there. It's h.264 ac3 video, not apple prores...

But we're talking real pcie nvidia cards with 512mb+ vram.

The bios option is annoying though, could have been a quick fix here.

Off to bestbuy top get a boxee boxHuh? ? This machine is a PITA.

Wonder how many people checked this thread out researching before buying and decided to get another brand?

I just got mine up and running when my SSD came in the mail today.

I flashed the bios to fix the fan issue, then I installed Windows 7 32-bit, RC1 Dharma and Aeon65.....LOL talk about a mess.

Movies look like I hit the slow motion button while playing them, have no choice but to steam where the box is located. But the same movies play fine in Windows Media Player.

Ugh, best thing to do, install Linux? Now that the bios is updated, I wont ever have to do that again correct? Even if I moved over to Linux?

I hate Linux, just dont have time or patience to learn anything about it, command line makes me loose it so quick too....

I knew all this on same system was gonna be too much, I have 2gb of RAM and using a SSD.

One thing I did notice, I absolutely love the SSD and browsing my library, no more having to wait for art to load, its all there as I flow thru due the huge upgrade in read speed from the SSD.

do a dual boot installation with the latest dharma live image, neither your win7 nor your upgraded BIOS will be touched

live sucks, why? because I dont know how to share my files over it. After spending hours trying to get dharma rc1 live installed (finally found out rc1 and unetbootin dont play nice), I have beta4 on my computer but now cant share my windows machine files to it.

I am fed up, anyone want a foxconn with 2gb of memory? I will sell it for 150.

I am going to build a windows machine that can handle what I need it to.

Having went double or nothing and bought/returned the boxee box (WTF did they do to xbmc Stare), I caved in and ordered a 4gb sodimm to replace the 2gb.

DipNFalls : Try running the xbmc UI @ 720p resolution, maybe you'll have better luck getting decent framerates.

Should be here any day now, but yeah, the way I see it, 256mb of vram is just not enough to make sure every format plays@1080p.

Can get anything playing @ 720p with 2gb.

Will report back when I pop the new ram in.

Damn,

right off the bat, playing the mythtv 60p files, still can't get them to play over 50fps with the 4gb module....

xbmc to blame?

going to try maverick next...

UI's a bit smoother though... will report back
