They bitstream HD audio fine as long as you use the DSPlayer build (http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=61355) and ffdshow, or an external player and ffdshow.

XBMC's DVDPlayer (and internal codecs) don't yet support bitstreaming of HD audio (TrueHD/DTS-HD), however it's in the works (http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...udioengine).

As for i3 v i5, if it's for HTPC use only, an i3 will be fine. They both use the same GPU, plus the i3 has enough grunt to software decode if you don't want to use DXVA.

The only advantage of the i5 is more CPU horsepower, and if you want to use the machine for other things, like gaming, etc.

Of course, all of the above appies to Windows!

On that account, I could still get a fanless gpu card that bitstreams hd audio through its hdmi port (which one by the way?).
My setup is dfi lanparty gf9400, core 2 duo e 4400, 2 gig ram, and it works flawlessly, except for hd audio. My htpc is only a player and nothing else.
All other things are done via my other pc's. It is connected to a Whs server.
So, what's the point of changing everything, instead of adding a dedicated gpu?
