Power On XBMC Over 3g/Mobile Internet
#1
Is their a way to get the power on button to start XBMC itself? Right now it only works over Wifi and if the phone and computer are on the same network. I can get the remote to work with XBMC over 3g/Mobile, I just can't get it to power on XBMC.

Have everything set up correctly and it works great! I saw that Grajen3 recommended a fix for it, but wasnt able to build it properly.

My HTPC is on all the time and I just want to be able to power on the app from my phone Smile

Let me know of any ideas you might have.

The litle magic that power upp your htcp can only be sent if the computer sending it is on the same switch "LAN". It wont magicly travel over the internet and down to your htpc even if your firewall is open Nerd

You need something on the inside of your lan, connected to the same switch to send the wol command. Check out wikipedia for more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake-on-LAN

You could check out for some kind of IP KVM switch if that would help you with your problem.

There are three things that change when you go from local area network to internet:
1. You deal with modem IP address
2. You deal with router NAT (Network Address Translation)
3. You deal with router firewalls

If you can do it from your home network, then you should be able to forward a port on your media center to your computer via your modem's IP address.

According to post #28 in this thread though, if you change a few things in the source code. It would be able to work over 3g/mobile internet.

What are your thoughts on that?

Yeah that would be awesome if i wanted to wake up my computer. All im looking to do though is have the power on button work to just load XBMC. I would like it to load over my 3g network, instead of having to use wifi.

No. He wants to make an app that works on wifi, also work from the Internet. See your router documentation on port forwarding. When you are on 3G, You are on the Internet. Read my previous post and your router documentation.

You will need your internet IP and a bit of knowledge on how networking works. You are asking something which is not difficult, but must be configured on a per network basis.

I already have my phone setup so that if its on 3g only it can still control XBMC. It just doesnt allow me to be able to start XBMC if its not on the same network. If I use my WIFI I can power it on and control it. Yet if I use my 3g only I can only control XBMC, not power it on.

Sorry if Im not explaining it the greatest. I will look into the router forwarding though and see what I can find.

Guys, just to make sure we all talk about the same thing : The OP does NOT want to use wake on LAN, his computer is running all the time and he wants to use his phone to remotely launch XBMC.

I have no idea how to do that, but I'm pretty sure it must be possible.
