[WINDOWS] "Analog" only audio setting that works
#1
Question
I have a DTS/Dolby capable 5.1 surround sound. It's connected to my HTPC via S/PDIF optical cable. However, in System audio settings, no matter what settings I choose there, the sound never works unless I choose "Analog". What does it take to get those other settings to work?

does it work outside XBMC?

Yes. It even works within the menus of XBMC. It's just that if I choose HDMI or Optical as the audio, the movies are silent. If I choose Analog, the sound is crappy, but there. Since I have an optical audio cable (and my HTPC is connected via HDMI) why do I have to choose Analog?
