Release Forum Browser - Programs Addon
#76
NobodyHere Wrote:I tried usnig on the forums here, but am having problems.

I can navigate the main forum, and sub-forum, titles correctly. But... when I go to actually load one of the threads, all I get is a blank screen. I can see the title, but no thread content.

Using the keyboard arrow keys, I can hear the page scrolling up, and down. I just can't see anything...

As it didn't crash anything, I'm not sure if there will be anything useful in this, but here's my log for that XBMC session. http://pastebin.com/B28QFZQ8

I noticed in the log that it seems WebViewer is not installed. WebViewer is a dependency of Forum Browser (normally if you install from the repo, WebViewer will be installed automatically)

Try installing WebViewer and see if that fixes your problem.

I didn't realize they were linked. I had initially installed WebViewer, and then the Forum Browser second. After finding that the WebViewer didn't work for me, I uninstalled it.

Well, I've uninstalled the Forum Browser, and deleted any leftover configs from the '$HOME/.xbmc/userdata/addon_data' directory just to be sure. After reinstalling the Forum Browser, it did indeed pull in the WebViewer.

The problem still remains though. After trying to open any of this forum's threads, I'm greeted by a blank screen sans the title bar.

I'm not seeing any error in the logs. Can you give me an example of a couple of threads your having problems with. I'm able to view all the threads I tried, so maybe it is specific threads.

As with the WebViewer issue you were having, I'm still wondering if it's maybe the build you are using...?
It's just that when I can't find errors, and no one else is reporting the issue, I start to wonder whether it is an addon problem. Of course, I've been wrong before Smile

I haven't been able to display any of the threads, including this one.

As to my build, it's Eden 11.0 BETA2 Git.

It could quite possibly be my system, and not the plugin. I've had quite a few issues with many of the non-official repos, and plugins, I've tried.

I'm using Arch Linux which is a rolling release distro. Maybe my kernel, and libraries, are too 'new' for XBMC. Then again i'm using several filesystems as well. BTRFS, and XFS, being the ones where all the XBMC related files are located.

Are there any relevant library versions, like python related for instance, that may help elucidate why I'm having so many issues?

Well, it looks like you're running Python 2.7, which is what I have running. Other than that I don't know. There's no errors in the log which makes it seem that XBMC thinks everything is working fine. It also means I have nothing to go on. I can confirm that the list of posts is empty (as opposed to not visible) because the log shows that It can't focus on the list control, which would tend to mean it's empty.

Why don't we wait and see if the next beta changes anything? If not, I can send you a testing version that logs at different points in the code that displays the posts. Then we could at least see at what point it is failing.

That may or may not mean anything. I've had issues with non-official repos/plugins in the past. They are not screened like they are in the official repo.

Shaking the magic 8 ball.... and the answer is - "Maybe" Smile

If I get some extra time I'll give it a shot, since it is XBMC related I don't mind doing it so much.

Okay. Can I test the WIP version? I've encountered the same issue on the same machine through WinXP (dual-boot), and on the Xbox port that somebody made.

They all have exactly the same issue. Is it even possible to have an IP related bug on this?

A couple of questions come to mind. Have you tried any other forums. It would be nice to know if you have the same problems browsing other forums.

Also what all is between XBMC and the web? Router/Firewall/Proxy - whatever.

I'm just trying to gather some data that might give some clues.

I'll let you know when I've got a special testing version ready for you.

Hi Ruuk,

looks like the XBMC Hub website has changed a little, the plugin just loads to a black screen, would it be possible sometime for you to have a look at it for me?
When you go to the XBMC Hub website directly in a browser you are now presented with a front welcome page.Oo

I'm using a router for my main PC's internet access, but it's not the source. I have an USB 3G modem running on another Windows PC. From there, I have it set up with internet connection sharing (ICS) running to a wireless router. No firewall on the ICS Windows PC, or my primary Linux one.

None of the computers, or devices, in the house I've tested with the plugin work. They all have the same problem.

OSes tested -> XP32, Vista32, Vista64, Seven32, Linux64, iPod Touch 4.x, XBMC4Xbox 3.0.x.
