Please can you send the XML file you are using? I can them check the format.

Thanks,

Stephen.

...or use "tv_validate_file" (see http://wiki.xmltv.org/index.php/XmltvValidation ) to check the file.

Just tried out xbmc and I'm impressed with the wide variety of file formats it handles. Was wondering if there was any way to view xmltv files from within xbmc without having to leave the program. Right now, I'm using xsltv (http://www.ericandchar.com/xsltvgrid/) in a browser to view the listings. Is there any way to integrate that with xbmc or is there a better way to view listings?

I did a search of the forum for references to xmltv and the only relevant post I could find was this one:
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...ight=xmltv
I tried adding the script from xbmc. I can see it in my list of scripts and I can set the directory where my xmltv file is. Not sure how to activate the script though and not sure if I need a special naming convention for the xmltv file. Right now, it's named tv.xml. Any hints on how to run this script would be very greatly appreciated. I checked the info on the wiki about scripts and add ins, but still couldn't get things working. Would also appreciate any clues on how to uninstall these sorts of things once they're installed. Thanks.

Not sure why my message got tacked on to the XMLTV - EPG TV Guide Listings Script thread. Would be happy with any XMLTV list viewing solution, not necessarily just this one.

Anyway, was investigating script.program.xmltv script further. Either it does nothing on my machine or I can get it to hang xbmc. That's about all I've figured out with it so far. I did find out you can uninstall it from the menu system in xbmc.

I also found out the script files are stored in Windows under a subdirectory a few directories deep beneath the user directory (either under Documents and Settings or Users depending on Windows version and under the login user name). So, scripts and other add-ons are not stored under "Program Files" in the xbmc directory on Windows as I would have guessed, but are stored elsewhere on the machine.

Finally, I did find some way to get to the XMLTV listings from XBMC. It doesn't involve the script in the XMLTV - EPG TV Guide Listings Script thread at all. It uses another script, Launcher ( http://code.google.com/p/xbmc-launcher/ ) to launch the xsltv routines I normally use for viewing xmltv files. Now the only thing missing would be integrating the ability to run my Hauppauge HVR-950Q. Might be able to launch the Hauppauge software from xbmc as well using the Launcher script. Am curious, has anyone else tried this yet?

Hopefully the following will help you...

1. Install the addon using the zip file from the 'Add-ons' submenu under 'System' on the XBMC home menu.
2. Under 'Programs' on the home menu you should now see 'TV Guide (XMLTV)'. Right-click on this (or press 'c') to bring up the context menu and select 'Add-on settings'. Under 'General' select 'XMLTV folder' and change it to where you keep your XMLTV listings file(s).
3. Check your XMLTV listings files are valid using tv_validate_file (see http://wiki.xmltv.org/index.php/XmltvValidation for how to do this).
4. Start the addon by selecting 'TV Guide (XMLTV)'. You should see a 'Reading TV listings...' progress bar and then a list of the current and next programs for each channel. If you get a blank screen, hit ESC and check the 'XMLTV folder' and its contents.

If it doesn't work, please post the error message you see and the xbmc.log (http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Log_File).

Good luck.

Thanks for the instructions. I had already tried most of the steps you outlined. The only step I left out was validating the xml file since it's working fine with other xmltv tools. I set the XMLTV folder, but what I couldn't find in the instructions for the script was what name to use for the xml file itself. I can't tell if the script should be able to locate a file named tv.xml or if it needs to be renamed. When I try to start the add-on, I don't see any error messages, but I don't see a progress bar or any indication the script is running either.

The script will try to process any file in the directory so the name is not important. However, if you are not seeing any thing at all then something is wrong. Please could you post the xbmc.log?

Thanks for those instructions indeed. I followed them and successfully installed XMLTV. However, I have been looking for some information on how to configure the XML file. The way I see it, it needs to be updated regularly. How do I do that? Further more, in the list are a whole lot of channels which I am not even able to receive. How do I delete them and how do I rearrange the list of channels?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Check the README in the addon zip file. It has an example.

Correct. Check the README and read the XMLTV online documentation. All the addon does is display an XMLTV file. It is up to you to generate the file you want to display.

When you configure XMLTV itself it will ask you which channels you want. The addon displays all configured channels, alphabetically. There is no filtering or sorting in the addon.

If someone has written a "grabber" for XMLTV for the US. Check http://wiki.xmltv.org/. If there is one then you can generate an XMLTV file for use by the addon.

In the settings you must set 'XMLTV folder' (the folder with your XMLTV listings file). 'XMLTV Source 1/2' are only used to launch another plugin when you select a channel from the addon (to actually watch that channel).

For example, settings:

'XMLTV Source Info URL' = 'http://www.laguiatv.com/programacion.php'
'TV plugin' = 'htsp://127.0.0.1:9982/tags/0/'

...will run the htsp (tvheadend) when you select a channel whose source URL (from the XMLTV file) is 'http://www.laguiatv.com/programacion.php'.

Many thanks for that, but what I really need is your xbmc.log. Also, did you run tv_validate_file on your file?
