How do I list sources separately in "Videos" library mode?
#1
I have a few different sources on my network for movies. Some sources contain "kids" movies, the rest contain movies for adults. I really don't want my son perusing through rated R content while he is looking to play a Disney movie. Consequently, I do not want to have to wade through dozens of kids movies while I look for a movie to watch either. File Mode organizes this just fine.
In File Mode, "Kids Movies" (and all of its sub-sources) displays with its own menu item. Also in File Mode, movies for adults (and all of its sub-sources) displays as "Movies". This is nice and tidy and separates the kids stuff from my own. I do not need to see the 50 kids movies while searching through what I want to watch.
Now the issue. When I switch to Library mode, which is clearly how one really wants to display the movies (the fanart, posters, in all their glory) the "Kids Movies" and the "Movies" file listings get condensed together into one listing called "Movies". Within movies are all of the kids and adult content.

The question is - How do I get "Kids Movies" and "Movies" to display separately in Library Mode?

I am using Dharma beta 4 on a MCE 7 box.

Thanks for any input!

you can use a smart playlist with path contains. or better yet, separate profiles.

Hi bi_polar,

If you decide to go with Smart Playlists, this thread may help (the examples are done using the Night skin but it should work for any skin I believe) :

Although, as Spiff said, profiles are probably better to stop your kid accidentally browsing the stuff he shouldn't be.

Good luck!

smart playlists can create a nice slick way of separating your content but it would still be pretty easy for your kid to click on the wrong button and pull up your "normal" movies.

If you're concerned about your kid stumbling across non-kid movies and wanting to watch the latest Terminator movie (as opposed to simply wanting to be sure the little one doesn't have to flip past disturbing movie fanart while looking for Madagascar) then profiles (much as I personally dislike them) are probably a better solution. And conveniently enough someone's already written a nice how-to: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=61779
(you may want to skip the custom button for switching profiles to prevent accidents)
