Unable to set 1920x1080 on Intel DG45ID (x4500HD)
#1
Hi members,

I have the following configuration:

CPU : Intel C2Q 9550
Motherboard : Intel DG45ID ( x4500HD integrated graphics card)
Monitor : BenQ G2420HD (Native resolution: 1920x1080)
XBMC versions used: XBMC_Live_Dhrama_beta4 and XBMC 9.11

When I installed, the default video resolution is 1280x1024. But whenever I tried to change the resolution to 1920x1080, only half (exactly 60%) of the screen is visible and the remaining screen (to the right) is cropped out.

Is there any workaround to get the screen resolution right ?

Thanks,

I'm using the same board at 1920x1080 but I'm running Mythbuntu 10.04. Are use using the HDMI connection? Resolution might be limited if you're using anything else. I'm not an expert at this linux stuff but having the same card I'll try to help. Can you open a terminal and type xrandr?

$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 8192 x 8192
VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI1 connected 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 930mm x 520mmHuh
1920x1080 60.0*+
1280x720 60.0
720x576 50.0
720x480 59.9
640x480 60.0

Huh

Dobyken, Thanks for your response.

When I use XBMC Live Dharma beta (which is embedded with ubuntu), I am not able to use the 1920x1080 properly.

I am using HDMI but I don't it is not the problem with HDMI as I am getting 1920x1080 properly if I use XBMC as application on top of ubuntu/win7.

Xrandr is useful to change the resolution if we don't find the resolution in resolution list. But here I see 1920x1080 in resolution list and if I try to select it, only half of the screen is visible.

Have your ever tried to run XBMC_Live instead of XBMC application on top of OS? If not, could you try on your PC using XBMC_Live (installation is not required) and tell me whether it is working?

I really appreciate your help of somebody who can address this issue.

I just booted my DG45ID box with a Live CD and it worked fine. All I did was choose Intel GPU at the prompt and it loaded full screen 1920x1080 60hz so that tells me it's not a driver issue. Just to be sure I went to the system tab and it said Live 9.11 R26 something or other. The only difference is you're using the BenQ while I'm connected to to a Vizio 42".
Perhaps it's a monitor setting or you're using a DVI >HDMI adapter. Have you ever upgraded your motherboard BIOS? There appears to be no issue with Live or the Intel graphics.

You should check XBMC's video calibration.

I have bios version 117. But I don't think it is the problem with BIOS as 1920x1080 resolution is properly displayed in Win7/Vista/Ubuntu. I am using direct HDMI connector.

Attached the image of 1920x1080 resolution which I got.

Even I tried video calibration/test pattern, I could not get the issue fixed?

Any thoughts?

FOUND THE SOLUTION.

I disconnected DVI cable connected to another monitor (1280x1024) which is already turned off. And I left only HDMI connection between PC and BenQ monitor (1920x1080). Then I rebooted and it is set to native resolution 1920x1080 automatically without any problems.

But I wonder why it is giving priority to DVI which no-power-monitor (LG here) is connected to. May be, it checks whether cable is connected.

Anyway thanks for guiding to the solution.
