xMM2 - Movies and TVShow NFO managament software for Windows

MindTooth Wrote:Really nice to see a app which might replace EmberMM, since that is a bit dead atm. Smile

Do you have any experience with .NET 4.0 and WPF?
http://windowsclient.net/wpf/
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa511440.aspx
http://www.ssw.com.au/ssw/Standards/Rule...faces.aspx

Just for sharing with you Wink

Yup, worked with WPF before but chose to use WinForms as I was not going to do any skinning and felt it might be bit slower when it comes to the treeview which can get hectic big. I was also still looking at possible Mono port when I started the project and winforms would make that easier.

I am in the planning stages for xMM3 and looking at some options. I would love to go crossplatform this time around with something like Qt maybe since I hate working with GTK# in Mono :o (any ideas on GUI options for Mono is welcome)

That last link about better interfaces is pretty cool, thanks.

I've started planning for v3 which will be crossplatform (windows, linux, osx)
So far planned for is to incl all the features of v2. I've made note of all the requests so far and will plan to incl these. Please let me know if there are any other features you guys would like to see.

* Create own thumbs via screencap (using ffmpeg perhaps)
* Run from command line - what kind of commands though?
* Scrape extra images (clearart, extra fanart, extra thumbs, & logos, etc - look at what some xbmc skins support - look at http://www.lockstockmods.net/clearart/)
* Scrape for trailers and download 'em (also need spot to enter manually provide trailer url)
* Option to work directly with NFO files and images
* Option to work directly with XBMC db and cache
* Option to work with own DB and cache (and export nfo and images via export options for xbmc)
* Support for Movies, TVShows, and Music (Documentaries and Anime - basically same as movies and tvshows?)

Documentaries and Anime are basically genres for movies/tv shows, I don't see why you should treat them differently.
A media manager for Music will be a dream come true for all of us, best of luck with that Smile

Another small suggestion, aside all mentioned:
-genre limit (there are several movies with 7/8 genres, would be nice to limit genres scraped to 1, 2 or 3). Probably a limit for cast (actors)
-multiple fanart download (probably again with a limit for number of fanarts downloaded). there are several skins that use a hack for displaying extra fanart.

If i think of anything else, i will add to this thread.
Good luck with v3. I hope the wait will not be (that) long Smile

i do have some suggestion over what some other media managers lacked.

download all (can be configured) related materials and stored in movie folder with option to save it for particular media center. eg fanart.jpg for xbmc and backdrop.jpg for mymovies.dk.

keep tracked of these downloads so that we can remove/banned particular downloads. these remove/banned downloads will not be redownloaded when rescraping. the problem with some media manager is that when i deleted ugly fanart, the fanart will get redownloaded again when i rescraping.

multiple ratings(imdb, rotten tomatoes), how many awards won, what kind of awards.

i dont mind scraping from themoviedb except for its movie ratings which sucks.

apple hd trailer

make it easier for manual movie fixing. to fix a movie with ember
1. ember will search the movie at imdb and you are force to wait while it search.
2. when done searching, you will have the option to select the correct movie. select a movie will download some movie information. again, you are force to wait.
3. click ok, if the selected movie is the correct one.
this whole process is slow. with huge library, its a tedious process.

one way to make better/faster manual movie fix is to cache all searched results. user should also be able to put search parameter for a movie while the manager searched and cached results at the backgroudn. so that the whole fixing process involves you
1. see search results that has been cached
2. typing search parameter if no movie is correctly searched
3. go watch movie or something.
4. see searched results. select. do continue watch movie.

ember and media companion could be in hiatus. this could be the saviour.
thanks.

thanks.

Hello. This is the first time I try to run this kind of tool, looks very promising but I never get any info on my movies, just a grey/black window at the right side. When I run scrapers, I can see log entries like this one:

2010-12-03 - 10:55:17: DB Update error: Cannot set CommandText while a DataReader is active
SELECT * FROM mediaitems WHERE gid='45' AND pid!='0' ORDER BY name
at System.Data.SQLite.SQLiteCommand.set_CommandText(String value)
at xMM2.DB.Update(String table, String command, String condition)

I run it as a stand-alone application (not part of any media center) in XP. My movies are rips (avi, mp4, mkv) and in folders with subfolders and file names include stuff like "HDlite" but I even tried adding "HDlite" to the Regex cleaning patterns to help it search.

If I restart the application, it remembers top folder for all movies but none of the subfolders, and it greets me with a pop-up that says "failed to load all data". Have tried disabling the firewall too. Help appreciated!

That error seems to occur while the app was scanning for new media and failed, and that is why you don't see all the items.

Not sure what could be causing this but the hdlite,cd,dvd, etc tags on names won't be the cause. The firewall is also not the cause sionce that only needs to allow the app when it has to scrape for info online.

I'll PM you with email addy where you can send the full logfile.

Found and fixed an issue with the movie scraper which would prevent info from some movies being returned.

I'm thrilled to see you are going to mono for xMM3 :-) It's a pain in the ass to have the need for a windows desktop for decent media management; I'd rather use my macbook or the (linux) htpc itself for that!

Is open sourcing v3 an option? I'm interested in developing for mono myself, but lack decent winforms experience (I've been a web guy for over a decade, hardly any desktop app experience) and I'd love to learn and, if at all possible, help out a bit if needed.

As for feature requests, I have none. I'm satisfied with getting info, covers and fanart ;-)

Can i add a suggestion??
I would love to see the scraper done by the PASSION-XBMC team called
CINE-PASSION --> http://passion-xbmc.org/scraper/index2.php?Page=Home
Since its a Bilingual Scraper (FR and EN)
many users would just love it Smile

And also,
i have a problem running xmm2_build205b on my Windows XP SP3 machine....
When i launch 'xMM2.exe'
i see this ERROR --> http://i.imgur.com/gapm5.png
So i can't use xMM2 as its not finding my XBMC database Sad
Here's the 'xmm.log' --> http://pastebin.com/LcSvrEXJ

But other tools like XBNfoEditor works 100%

thanx!!

Not going mono, I hate working with GTK# and there is not much better GUI solutions avail for mono.
It is being developed in Qt

Had a quick look at the log and this line "no such table: config" tells me you do not have a proper install. You need to downlaod and install build 2.0.0 first and then overwrite its files with those from build 2.0.5 since 2.0.5 is only a patch.

Downloaded the latest version 2 and applied the update, and have loaded about 3000 items (Either movies or episodes). Well done excellent program. Took me while, but got everything going, exported it to XBMC nfo's....... working like a charm.

I read through this thread and saw someone already mentioned, but I thought I would reiterate the need to export individual items to nfo for xbmc. Made a couple of changes to some movies and added some new episodes. Well I guess you can imagine how long I have to wait to get everything exported again. To give you an idea - my movies list is 1300 strong.

Once again awesome program, really keen to see the newer versions... but I'm already hooked..
