[CLOSED] Advanced Launcher - Applications Launcher Addon for XBMC
Thank you for the quick response! Everything you said made sense and that's what I was afraid of... so if I were to manually delete the 'broken' entries in Advanced Launcher, I could then re-scrape using the semi-automatic mode and that would let me fix the issues all while not modifying the rest of the database that I hadn't touched?

I am trying to import my collection of Genesis roms and when I did so, I found that around 60 of them did not have local artwork associated with them... so I'm going through and manually importing it into the database by right clicking on each file in Advanced Launcher and doing the import process where it slowly scans for the game online then I click which picture best fits. I'm wondering if there was a way to make this process a little quicker? Maybe like a batch half automated online import... ?

I hope that makes sense. Thanks!
There is 3 scraping modes into Advanced Launcher : automatic, semi-automatic and manual. With automatic mode, Advanced Launcher scrap everything what it can using the selected database and the name of the file. Inconvenience of this method is that it is not 100% accuracy. With manual mode, user has to ask separately to scrap data, thumb and fanart. For each step he will have to select the right game from a list and thumb and fanart corresponding the most to i's request. With semi-automatic mode, you have a mix. Advanced Launcher scan everything automatically but ask you to select the right game, and the thumb and fanart you want. I always suggest to use semi-automatic mode instead of the automatic mode.

In your case, it seems that you have used in the first time the automatic mode, and so it was not able to scrap correctly everything (not surprising). Now you will have to modify everything using the manual mode. Actually I only see 2 ways for you to proceed : manually scrap the wrong scrapped games ou deleted the wrong scrapped from Advanced Launcher list and perform a semiautomatic scan. But honestly... it will take you the same amount of time to do both.
Hi,

I was wondering if it is possible to hide games (similar to the option in RCB) that have not received a description during a scrape or do not have box art ?

Cheers

Why hide them? You do not want to start them?
  • If you do not want to start them... then just delete them.
  • If you want to start them... then... why do you want to hide them?

If you want to hide something into Advanced Launcher, go into it's context menu ("c" key) > Edit Launcher > Status > and set it to Finished. Then go into Advanced Launcher settings > Miscellaneous > Display option > and check hide categories/launchers/items marked as finished.

Now, in my opinion, automatically hide things that have not worked correctly... that's not a good way to proceed.

Thanks for the reply,

Lol I think it was my OCD that wanted all incomplete listings hidden because I was finding that the online scrapers werent picking up some of the more obscure games in my collection that I wasn't too bothered about playing. Manually deleting or setting games to finished seems to do the trick but might take a while.
Hey guys, I've used Advanced Launcher in the past with emulators and I absolutely love it, thanks for all the hard work that goes into this Smile

Anyway, onto the issue.

I've been trying to add some PC games to the library and I'm having trouble getting fanart and thumbs to be scraped. I can scrape data/info but when I try and scrape thumbs/fanart I get the "no thumb found" error. Also, is there a "Windows Game" option when choosing the platform? All I can see is; PC IBM Compatible.. I swear I've seen videos of people using just 'PC'.

Thanks!

For PC games you have to set the platform to "PC IBM Compatible"... then rescrape data/thumbs/fanart.
Hey Angelscry, thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

Sorry if I didn't explain properly, kind of went on a ramble there (its a bit passed my bed time) but everything is marked as "PC-Booter" when adding to the library and THEN when I go to scrape via "Edit Launcher > Import Infos, Thumbnail & Fanart > PC IBM Compatible" - I then get the no thumb/fanart error found.

I know this is most likely an issue on my end as I've used AL with roms and emulators and it worked amazingly. I seriously can't praise this add-on enough Smile

Whilst I think of it, when "creating a new launcher" none of my drives show up except for one of my optical drives, a flash drive, and a source I created as I couldn't locate anything else.

How can I know the exact command line AL is launching when I click on a game ? When I run my script manually it works but not when I run it from AL so I would like to know what command it is sending to see if it's the same. I'm on linux btw.

Platform for items is set by the launcher. Edit your launcher and set the platform as "IBM PC-Compatible". Then delete you items list and perform a new scan.

You need to add your drives as sources (like for movies, videos or music into XBMC). Go into Advanced Launcher context menu ("C" key), then select the Manage Sources menu entry to add new sources into XBMC.
So lately I'm having trouble scraping the <gameplot> for about half of my collection... however, I see that you can import .nfo files into Advanced Launcher's database. Would it be feasible for me to have RomCollectionBrowser scrape the plot for all these games and then import the resulting individual .nfo files into AL's one single launchers.xml in order to finish my rom collection?

Thanks again. I absolutely love this add-on!

I have discussed a long time with Malte to have the Advanced Launcher and RCB .nfo files compatibles... so yes... it would be possible.

There is no way to know it expect if you have an error. To display errors, just start XBMC into a terminal and its related, or started application related errors would be reported into the same terminal.

Thanks for getting back to me again Angelscry and sorry if I'm starting to get on your nerves with this, but I what do you mean by "edit launcher and set the platform as IBM PC Compatible, then delete your items list and perform a new scan"?

These are the options I get when going through Edit Launcher:

Image

None of which allow me to re-set the platform outside of going through Import thumbnails & fanart. - Sorry if I missed the ball completely on what you meant there.

I have no idea what you mean by "Delete your items list and perform a new scan" I'm afraid. I've been adding the .lnk's one by one, and can't see any option to scan.

Again, sorry if I'm getting on your nerves with this but I've got little to no idea what the hell I'm doing Tongue

  1. Select the launcher, go into it's context menu ("C" key), then "Edit Launcher" > "Modifiy Data/Infos" > "Modify Platform" then select "IBM PC Compatible".
  2. Then, again, select the launcher, go into it's context menu > "Edit Launcher" > "Manage Items List" > "Clear Item List".
  3. Finally, always, select the launcher, go into it's context menu > "Add Items" > "Scan for New Items".
Thanks again for the reply Angelscry. I've managed to get SOME thumbs/fanart after changing the platform to IBM PC Compatible, from PC-Booter. Some won't allow it, but hey. It looks like its working.

Part 2 and 3 on the other hand..

I don't have any option to "Manage Items List"

Image

I also can't (or don't know how to) add items and then scan for items. When I was using it for roms, I had no issues scanning for new items, but with this standalone launcher I'm seeing a lot of different things. Again, I'm really sorry, I know how busy you are and your help is extremely appreciated. I'm even getting frustrated with myself for burdening you with this.

Edit: Turns out I can only grab thumbs, fanart still doesn't work for any title.
That seems like an awesome work you've done here Angelscry!
Sorry for the dumb question but I'm new to that thing: what differentiate Advanced Launcher from Rom Browser Collection?
