So I started here:
http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Usi...in_Windows

And then went here:
http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Usi..._with_XBMC

I have this remote:
http://wiki.xbmc.org/images/e/e0/Remote-hauppauge.jpg
Hauppauge Media Center Remote

And I grabbed this plugin:
http://xbmcmce.sourceforge.net/

I then updated the plugin thru XBMC.

I am running Dharma RC1.

The problem I am having is everything I read about the MCERemote add on is that you install it and your remote should "just work". Well, mine isn't. It has the basic functions, but stuff on the remote still launches windows media center, and I don't seem to have certain functionality I should have with the remote (context menu, being able to select letters when the on screen keyboard appears, etc)

When I go to configure the addon, the only options in it are:
Button Mappings
Misc Settings

Misc Settings just has a update/install keymap editor option, and button mappings is just a list of buttons.

I figure I could probably teach my self to edit all the buttons or what not, but I thought this had a "just works" default config?

While I do not have that exact remote I found there is not a "just works" configuration for anything other then navigation. I have a Harmony One and I still have to do a fair amount of hacking in the registry to get what I wanted from items like the context menu. The wiki had a registry file modification that worked 99% for me but was still missing a few specific featured of my setup that I wanted (Update library on button press, clean library on button press, and alt-f4 to get out of my emulators Smile ).

Try checking these links out. If that doesn't work for you I can post my registry/xml file when I get home. As I can't seem to find a direct link with it in the wiki

Ha, you linked the same three thinks I did it looks looks like.

Well, I did make some more progress I think as I found out that I was going to:
System->Addons->program addons->MCERemote->Configure
and that turned out to be wrong. I had the programs menu turn off on the main screen, so I turned it back on and found the options I was looking for there. I browsed thru the default settings there but I noticed there was not one for 'ContextMenu' which seemed odd.

Also, I used to use XMBC a while ago, and I seem to remember have the "Can not use the remote to select letters when the on screen keyboard comes up" (like for searching, naming folders, etc) and there was a setting somewhere that had to be set to true or something. It seems like that make still be the case, but I can not for the life of me find where that setting was.

I have no idea if your remote is a fully MCE RC6 compatible or not! to find out then look for "Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver" in Device Manager_> Human interface Devices.

if its not there then my config file will not work for you.

if it is there, then check my thread, follow the steps and you cant go wrong. Very easy to do and should'nt take you over 10minutes. See link in my SIG.

Cheers,
EG.

Done and done. Thanks a bunch, that was a HUGE help.

I still have the on screen keyboard problem tho, if I go to search, the cursor just stays on the 'a'. OK closes the window and enter just keeps hitting 'a' over and over.

EDIT: Also, your guide says '#' Clears Library. Do you mean 'Clean' instead? I don't want to have to worry about hitting a button on my remote that can potentionally delete my library making me have to rescan.

did you ENABLE "Remote Control Sends Keyboard Presses" in Settings_> System_> Input Devices.

Yes I meant Clean Library Smile Do not worry about this if you have not used my Keyboard.xml otherwise use the remapping app in section two and map"#" to anything else.

I think I'm going to submit a Keyboard.xml update without the Clean library function just to avoid any headaches.

EG.

Yeah I followed your whole guide so I am using that.

Maybe in the alternative config, # and * could do something else? Launch playlist maybe for those that do not have the radio/pcitures/video/music hot keys? (seems to be a common thing to not put on MCE remotes, I have three different ones here and not one of them has those buttons, lol.)

EDIT: Yup, send keypresses did the trick, hurray!

Glad everything is working for you now.

I am in a process of Constructing my site and been doing that for the past 3 weeks whenever I find free time. I need it for posting updates as there are no enough space in the first post in my thread to add any thing else lol 10000 character limit reached lol.

Any ways I will commit a new update tonight I will leave "*/. button" as it is but will change the "# button" to open playlist no problems.

Thank you for your suggestion, seems safer than having Clean Library Laugh Anyways you can change your remote config using Oskii's little app in Section2 honstly easiest way ever to change what buttons do. Or just change your Keyboard.xml if you know how.

Cheers,
EG.
