Glad I found this, I've been trying to do the same thing.
This used to work, years ago, when using XBMC on a modded xbox.
It must have been changed for a reason, but good to know there is an easy fix.

I'm having the same problem as the TS.
I tried compiling XBMC from source following the tutorial at http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=HOW-TO_compi...ource_code
However, XBMC with the altered source code, XBMC doesn't play *ANY* files whatsoever
Does anyone have a compiled XBMC.exe with the modified source, or willing to help me out with this?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
