Cheap decent SSD for Live?

Can anyone point out where to get a small (4/8/16G) and cheap (max. 50€Wink 2,5" SSD for XS35GT? They´re sold out here in Finland completely.

Buy a fast (at least 133x better 266x or 400x) CF card with a CF to SATA adapter, that's what I did and it works great.
In practice it feels as fast as a SSD (an Atom cpu can't make full use of the extra speed of a SSD anyway).
I have a Transcend card, but Kingston is equally good.

^^ This is the the least expensive route and saves you a SATA slot on your board.

What is the perf like with XBMC running on compact flash? Is the UI/fanart snappy?

I'm thinking of going with this to replace my SSDs as currently I'm using around 2GB of a 128GB Samsung SSD and I feel like the larger SSD could be used better elsewhere.

With a good compact flash the performance is very similar to a older JMicron SSD. Any higher-end SSD (like a OCZ Vertex, any Intel SSD) will be faster than a CF because of a highly developed controller for the purpose, but any 16gb SSD on the market is no better than CF. The whole magic of a solid state OS drive with XBMC is the lack of seek times pulling up your database and fanart.

To be honest the only reasons to go above 16GB is if you want the PVR branch (nice to have a larger buffer) or if you use Windows 7 (then just get a OCZ 32/64 GB SSD).

Well I ordered this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V...SA:GB:1123

It seems that I could have had more GB´s with CF (lowest price for 32GB 600x card now under $25 on ebay) and adapter, but maybe this is better. There seems to be some problems with those adapters and larger memory cards.

Let´s hope it´s good enough. Just tried normal HDD with XS35GT and it´s far from silent with it. Too bad Live on USB is pretty much unusable, but just have to wait that SSD to arrive.

Just ordered this from Newegg and it has a $25.00 rebate until 11/28/10.

Edit: You don't need one this big for just xbmc but I am also going to install windows on it and it seemed like a good deal

I just bought this one yesterday for XBMC purposes:

I will use it for Linux + TVHeadend.

If you want to dual boot, get the above Vertex.

Bought myself a SSD this morning (for the Shuttle XS35GT also). The OCZ Onyx that poofyhairguy mentioned is a good drive for a good price. The 30GB OCZ Vertex drive is in a higher-tier speed range than the Onyx, and I found one on amazon for a few $$ cheaper: http://www.amazon.com/OCZ-Technology-Ver...rvi_cart_1.

If you need a speed boost and more GB's, the Vertex 2 posted by EarnheadJ is a great drive.

In the end, I went with the 30GB OCZ Vertex from Amazon and ordered the rest of the shuttle parts from newegg.

All my other SSDs are those. Only got the Onyx because it was $40 AR on BF.
