Hi

Ive been a XBMC user since it was first developt for the xbox. Ive been using a old setup running XBMC Live. Now im looking to upgrade. Ive read alot of posts and seem to be more confused then when i began. The setup i want to build needs to play Full Hd 1080p, MTS files and Avchd the hard stuffNod. I have all my media on 6x2TB HD running on another computer( i use smb).I use optical/coax for sound(dont realy care if i get sound over hdmi or not i actual want optical/coax for my amp) and hdmi for video. My present setup works fine for everything but drops frames on MTS files and some flv files i get no sound (bird sample drops no frames) also its a bit laggy some time its just reached its age. I use XBMC for videos and music, maybe some times some youtube but not much. Note i dont care about noise or power consumption All i want is small size and i dont want to have to tweak linux. basicly plug and play.So what i was looking at is as follows:

-Full HD 52inch LG LCD (have)

-XBMC Live (latest)

-Asus AT5IONT-I

-2.5" HD (dont care for ssd to costly for what you get but yeah) (have)

-IR6 receiver with logitech universal remote (have)

-Case M350 Universal Mini-ITX (enclosure not sure yet)Huh

-PSU not sure what the min would be but maybe

If the bird sample does not drop any frames, then you pretty much already have a 1080p capable setup. If you only want to build a new setup to play MTS files without frame drops then you should investigate the reason for the frame drops first.

Afaik MTS files contain AVCHD data. This transport stream is based on MPEG-2 and allows video data up to 1080i. Basically your current setup should be capable of playing that, as you are able to play the bird sample. So the reason for the frame drops might be that the AVCHD codec is not yet hardware accelerated. If this is the case then a simple Atom processor is probably not enough to play these files without frame drops.

So if MTS files are the main reason for your new setup you should investigate the problem first. Otherwise you might end up with a new setup which is still not capable of playing these files.

I don't see any problems with this rig so far. The only thing I would change is the remote. You can buy a logitech harmony remote at a much cheaper price. This one from Newegg is re-certified but you shouldn't have any problems with it.
