TheBurner,
Are you using Wi-Fi? Try rebooting your router or adjusting the antenna. Mine has been great since I moved it 3 feet closer. From what I understand the REVO doesn't have a great wi-fi antenna inside.

I know this post is a bit old, but I'm having a similar issue constantly. This is definitely not a wifi problem (at least for me) as I working off local drives. I'm so frustrated. Below is a taste of what is happening, I can post a full log if need be.

I'm having a similar failure on my ATV2, except it's just before a crash rather than pausing/stuttering. Can't work out what the issue is, either the server, the network or the ATV2.

I don't use your equipment but this might help:
When you see a group of people with same equipment with sudden onset of the same problem this tends to be due to recent firmware/driver upgrade. Has anyone tried rolling back to previous driver/firmware?
Remember to turn off automatic updating when trying this solution btw.

Sorry for bumping this thread ,but I have the same problem with my brand new 2011 mac mini on the wireless network (802.11N). The video freezes but the audio continues to play (for streaming content). The only way to solve this problem is to use my mouse and change focus from XBMC to any other program and the video immediately resumes. I can't even use the keyboard when the video is frozen - XBMC ends up being completely frozen unless I change focus. Due to this issue, I am not even able to go into full screen mode. Can somebody please help...

I thought I had a solution. NM
I just experienced the same problem on an external HDD using VLC. This now officially looks like a hardware problem. I have an AMD a8-3850 using the HDMI out.

Same problem here.
Interestingly, divx seems fine, but shows recorded from free to air are choppy as are mp3's of all things - the mp3's play fine just on visualisation but if any menu is displayed it goes to choppy mode ...
Tried on Aug 16 release and Aug 26 release - nightlies for atv2

I'll join the chorus - out of nowhere, my ATV2 which was running the Feb 27, 2011 build of XBMC starting having this issue as well. No XBMC update or iOS update were applied; with the ATV2 doing exactly what I wanted, I'm loathe to upgrade for the sake of upgrading.
I'm now running the Aug 26 2011 (Git:20110825-bb4f856) nightly to see if that'd help - it didn't. Love to figure this one out.

Ill add my name to this thread as well, however for me its when watching online content from the internet (specifically ITV).
For me the system randomly drops back to the menu system but i would have throught that it should pause the video and buffer.
