Maverick + svn ppa works OK, but... questions

Question
By reading this forum and other sources, I've got xbmc working on a Zotac Zbox HD-ID11 by installing Ubuntu Maverick and pointing apt to the xbmc SVN repository. Smile

However I've got a few issues I need help with...

1) Boot dies with Xorg. It tries to start X and fails. I noticed that GDM was uninstalled, but I don't understand the new Upstart system. (I'm old-school init.d :/ )

When I tell Xorg to exit to prompt and 'restart xbmc-live' it works great. So, that means xorg.conf and related are fine. It's just a weird startup issue.

(Also, how do I get the xbmc boot splash?)

2) When running xbmc, all is fine, but Xorg seems to be using a lot of CPU, even when idle at weather. The Zotac Zbox overheated and shutdown at one point.

I've checked the video settings & such, but can't figure out what is eating so much CPU.

Any suggestions, or just a temporary artifact from being SVN/beta?

(I do have the proprietary nvidia driver installed and working.)

Abe

Seems deleting /etc/init/gdm.conf allowed a successful boot. Smile

Thanks for this post - I just had to rebuild my system due to hw failure and used Maverick. Had the exact same issue - removing gdm.conf did the trick.

Thanks,
It worked for me too.
The only problem is that audo over HDMI doesn't work.
It works great if I reinstall GDM.
