Downloading movies?
#1
Hey Guys:

New to the Forum, first time post. I recently sent my Old XBOX out to a tech to bet XMBC installed on it. I should be receiving it in the next few days. I am VERY NEW to this (XBMC) program and don't know much about all of the functionality, applications, etc.

In any event, I have been watching a lot of vids on YouTube and have noticed many folks have Movies loaded on their XBOX Hard Drive (or streaming to the XBOX).

My Question is, which websites are best for movie download, or which applications should I use to download movies to my PC? Please speak in LAYMENS terms, as I'm not that Tech Savvy. Smile Thanks, guys.

Some of these sites may offer FTP access, depends I dont know.

Firefox has plugins that allow download youtube or other flash site content...

A popular and reliable FTP software used to tranfer data from PC to XBOX is FlashFXP

Bare in mind you wont get help with downloading anything illegal, since it is illegal and against forum rules.

If you own DVD's and wish to convert them to a digital file you can use DVDfab

DVDfab may be illegal in your country to use. So check about that before using it.

I cant be held responsible if you break the law, in anyway.

and FYI These Forums are no longer for XBOX related help.

Thanks a Million! Yeah, I don't want to download anything "Illegal"......but I was wondering if I could PAY to have a movie in my collection (Digitally) and then stream it to my XBOX, or save my Favs to my XBOX Hard Drive. Additionally, I was talking about my CURRENT collection at home and how I could transfer those files to my PC (condense files) and then save them to my XBOX. Thanks for your input.

I personally am looking for something legitimate...I've burned about 300 movies from DVD to my hard drive, which has greatly improved my wall space in my living room, and I have about 15-20 more dvds that I can't seem to get burnt because they hit errors...I'm using DVD shrink and DVD decryptor to burn them and can't seem to break through whatever encryption is on them to put them on my hard drive...

any ideas?

Both Shrink and Decryptor are way out of date. While that doesn't stop them from being essential for backup purposes, you need to use other software with them.

Try ripping your discs using DVD Fab. When the rip is complete, run the result through FixVTS, and THEN DVD Shrink should be able to work its magic.

Handbrake is another option that I have been using recently with seemingly good success. Seems to be a very powerful tool that is fairly easy to master.

Handbrake is great for re-encoding disks (full of nasty MPEG2 content) into single x264 mkv files. Takes a LOT of CPU power though, like I wouldn't dare trying on one of my non-Quad cores.

hmm just because a site charges for downloads, or access to their video collection doesn't make them legit either..

We presuming that in principle companies are I suggested are legitimate, because they are known and registered businesses.

Your serving as devils advocate is a good point in this case. Making ppl aware of a fact.

If you know of illegitimate companies charging for downloads please do not post them here, while which I am sure many exist, to best of my knowledge none of the ones I advised on my post are illegal.

You make a good point. thx for sharing.

AnyDVD and Handbrake. Unless a DVD is physically damaged I have *always* been able to get a good copy. I don't rip HD stuff though, so I can't speak to that.
