I have been using the XBMC for the original XBOX for years and have a server with all my purchased DVD's ripped to ISO. Works great. Will this Apple TV XBMC version access my network server and read all the ISO files like the old Xbox version? Want to know before I start to even consider.

It will operate the same as the XBox XBMC. it's the same program on different platforms. you'll have to resetup the shares on the xbmc but that's minor. Plus XBMC on the atv is running a newer version of XBMC and you'll be able to do 720p right out of the box.

Great. Will it play any of the 1080 stuff. I know they said the old Xbox hardware was just not powerful enough to handle the HD video. We have started to record family video in the HD from iPhone and Camcorder and would love to be able to watch it too.

Yes it will play most 1080p content, BUT.. you will need to install one of these

and install the driver. there are lots of guides and forum posts here with instructions.

If 1080p is a requirement, take a look at an ION based nettops.
