I have removed the weather entry from my homescreen, but there is still a weather icon in the top right. I tried to disable it in settings > Installed addons > Weather, but the option to disable this plugin is greyed out.

I don't want this plugin running in the background, and I don't want it going online to fetch the weather. So how can I get rid of it? Maybe delete some files in the XBMC folder? Which ones?

Thats funny. I am searching on how to get it to work.. however good luck on removing it.
