Wifi: it's in the Openelec configuration, I'm not at the box at the moment but I think it's under Programs or similar on the home screen. You'll find wifi settings in there.

For anyone who has the same problem, the key bit is:

Audio output = HDMI
Speaker configuration = 7.1 (or the what your receiver is capable of)

Audio output device = custom
Custom audio device = plughw:1,7

Passthrough output device = custom
Custom passthrough device = plughw:1,7
