nForce 980a for hardware acceleration?

Hello,

I was wondering what the NVidia nForce 980A can mean in terms of hardware acceleration in Linux ? Or if not usable for acceleration in Linux, perhaps in Windows 7?

Can it be used for hardware acceleration and Bluray ISO playback ? Or is an additional GPU always required in this case, making it actually overkill to buy such a motherboard ?

I'm not that experienced in hardware, I have no clue where to find out if a motherboard with discrete graphics card is any useful...

Kind regards,

Cooled.

Um, the NVidia nForce 980A is a SLI platform. It is meant to have a discrete GPU.

wait, poofy, I'm confused. isn't the 980a supposed to have an integrated 8300 IGP?

You are right Hannes. I had it mixed up. Thanks for the correction. It is the 8300 IGP which is enough for 1080p in Linux or Windows. Good call. The holidays have me off my game a little. Wink
