GET THE ASUS!! Great Netbook.

For the record though, I hate HP as well (HATE) by I do love my Mini 311. No only because it is the perfect hackintosh netbook, but also because third part bios lets me overclock it to keep it modern.

The 1201NL was delivered today Big Grin

Impressed with the build quality and the screen is faultless.

One annoyance is that the XP system disc is 80gb and the other partition is 62gb, there are two other hidden partitions one is the recovery not sure about the other yet. 80gb for the system partition is a bit extreme isnt it.

That partition needs shrinking ASAP!

I would be tempted to wipe the lot and stick Ubuntu on but I think having XP might be handy if I ever need to do something un-linux.

be smart and wait a few weeks for the AMD netbooks. take a look at the announced models at CES to see you get a lot more bang for the buck.

At least put some Ubuntu on there for playback. Maybe even just XBMC Live.

Ubuntu is going to be my main OS, I want to keep XP as a backup but to be honest I doubt I will log into XP at all.

Yep now Ubuntu is installed not gone back to XP.

XBMC is smooth, library was a cinch to setup

Two slight issues

Sound over HDMI, got it working my manually changing the output in ubuntu, there are a couple of guides that I plan to try over the weekend.

Samsung LCD Resolution, its a HD ready telly, 1366x768, Nvidia doesn't list that. I have the same issue on my Pioneer Plasma 1024x768. There are tons of guides for 10.04, b know I just need to edit the xconf, dont want to screw it up lol.

Gutted there are issues with random freezing in ubuntu with the 1201n-nl.

Guess I will just have to stick with XP / vpn to the microserver.

XBMC on the XP instead.

BEKO86 Wrote:Thanks for the info, shame its a lot cheaper over on your shores. Ripoff Britain as usual!

As far as Apple goes, its 40% hype and 40% marketing BS.

The price is pretty dang close. Especially if it includes VAT. You make pounds we make dollars. The number value in that price is almost the same and even closer if you include our state sales tax. You cant try to compare prices and include an exchange rate. Its apples and oranges. You are paying the same as us.

Looks like a winner to me. With XBMC 10 I should get hw video acceleration in Windows.

I can't understand why people are buying these overpriced nettops. Even if they never open the netbook and glue it to the back of their TV, it's still cheaper.

My netbook drive my projector and stereo, if you want to play music without turning on the projector this is perfect. It also makes the system portible

Too bad the ATV2 doesn't do 1080p or 5.1 and requires a thethered jailbreak or I'd be all over that.

Getting a little bored with my single core asus 1201nl, xbmc is fine I just don't really use it for that plus my server will be piping up to my bedroom anyway.

I really like the netbook, its just a little slow and I want to upgrade to Windows 7. Would the duel core 1201n be snappy enough for windows 7 or is there a newer version of these netbooks out?

It has been replaced, but its not a huge difference:

With 2GB+ RAM the original you have could run Windows 7.
