Same here. Before I installed XBMC I had seen some YouTube videos of the interface and was prepared to do a lot of tinkering to get it working and looking that good. I didn't expect to have anything smooth enough for anyone else to look at for at least a month or so (and probably still have glitches that needed fixing after that).
I was shocked at how little there was to do after install. XBMC required literally none of the under-the-hood work I was expecting. No tricky depends, no special kernel compile, no config file hell. Just run scrapers, tweak covers/thumbnails/fanarts and enjoy.

Used XBMC since it was first available on the original XBOX. All versions are great, would have never of even thought about having a HTPC if XBMC was not available.
Summery: XBMC is the best software ever made.
