External DVD wont play: "please insert disc"
#1
Hi everybody!

I have an external DVD drive (F:\) and when I insert a DVD nothing happens. When i browse in "Movies" to the drive, XBMC sees that there is a DVD inserted, but when i click on it the message appears:

"Please insert disc".

when i go to Windows, i can use the DVD normally with other programs, e.g. VLC.

I dont know if it matters, but i have "Alcohol 120%" installed (but 0 virtual drives mounted).

I have no idea how to make the DVDs running - any ideas? Thanks in advance!

You will have to be Administrator to perform these operations

1. Right Click "My Computer"
2. Select "Manage"
3. Right Click on the current "D:\"
4. Select "Change Drive letters and paths..."
5. Click Change
6. Select new drive letter
7.Repeat for 1-6 for "F:\"

Windows will give you error messages that say "Changing blah blah" may cause problems, just ignore these. Just make sure that the drive letter for your external comes before the internal.

BTW, you can use the same method to have a usb drive mount in a specific drive, my USB's mount in "J:\" Smile

Let me know if this fixes the problem with XBMC

***** SOLVED *****

Ur my personal hero Wink worked like a charm! i simply had to bring the desired dvd drive before all other dvd drives.

for initially i had problems finding the option despite your guidance, here is where u find it in WinXP SP2 (for future use Wink):

control panel \ Administration \ computer administration \

Left-hand side: Disk adminisrtration

Then select under "View" : View Top \ Show Volume List

Then on the top right side -> right click and change volume labels!

cheers and thanks again!
