Hm.... what does this mean for xbmc? Cross-licensing? Can someone wade through the technical speak, and comment what this means for Sandy Bridge, or the future of intel chips?

I don't think it really means anything....With intel and AMD finding ways to integrate more robust graphics on their processors, Nvidia is pretty much screwed except for their gaming card niche.

As far as it relates to XBMC, not much should change. There's no reason, at the moment, to presume that intel will suddenly make it easier to use their video cards to decode in Linux, and the Windows and OSX platforms already can use most cards for decoding through their respective OS frameworks.

Or am I misunderstanding the question?
