Is the onboard graphic card (in combination with rest) sufficient for 1080p/7.1audio?

you see any problem with that?

btw.. coming back to the initial questions:
1. play 1080p + 7.1 qual
2. be reasonably fast for a network storage
3. reasonably power efficient
4. (could i play 3d movies?)
5. do you think its ok? or something really stupid in there?

can we answer them like this? Huh
1. yes
2. yes
3. yes
4. yes
5. yes and no

btw... regarding the raid.. i think ill go for an additional harddrive and raid-10:

Quote:Controller Requirement
RAID 5 demands a high end card for the data storage performance. If the purpose of the RAID 5 controller is being solved by the operating system, then it will result in the slowing down of the performance of the computer. In case of a RAID 10 controller, any hardware controller can be used.

i see a problem with your chosen RAM,,,
why choose 204-pin SODIMM??
your Motherboard takes 240-pin,,, no??

and also, its not a dual-channel set you chose...
you need to choose like 4GB(2x2GB set)
like this --> http://fwd4.me/u3i

is that ok?

in the mainboard specs the following is written:
4 x DIMM, Max. 16 GB, DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1600/1333/1066 ECC,Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory
Dual Channel memory architecture

how do you know i need 240 pin and not 204 pin? i dont see those numbers anywhere indicated...

what is the difference wether i buy the two bars separately and if i buy them togheter?

normal pc motherboards use 240-pin DIMM....
Laptop pc use 204-pin SODIMM....

i finally reached the point where think for me 2TB at this point of time are still enough (could be more, but i can live with it...).. thus, i think having 2 times 2TB storage mirrored in Win7 in a Software Raid1 is best for me

Here's the part list which I would like to include:

[CPU] AMD Athlon II X2 250 BOX C3 Stepping, 3.0GHz, AM3, 2C/2T
72$ http://digitec.ch/ProdukteDetails2.aspx?...kel=196133

[MB] Asus M4A87TD/USB3, AMD 870, AM3, CFX
104$ http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=nl...templete=2

[RAM] Kingston ValueRAM, 2x2GB Kit, DDR3-1333, CL9
54$ http://digitec.ch/ProdukteDetails2.aspx?...kel=196133

[Sytem HDD] Corsair Force F40 SSD MLC, 2.5 Zoll, 40GB, SATA-II
129$ http://digitec.ch/ProdukteDetails2.aspx?...kel=187405

[Storage HDD] Western Digital Caviar Green, 64MB, 2TB, SATA-II
99$ http://digitec.ch/ProdukteDetails2.aspx?...kel=194639

[Parity HDD] Western Digital Caviar Green, 64MB, 2TB, SATA-II
99$ http://digitec.ch/ProdukteDetails2.aspx?...kel=180061

[PSU] Corsair Netzteil 500 CX - 500 Watt
70$ http://digitec.ch/ProdukteDetails2.aspx?...kel=204407

[GPU] ZOTAC GT-430 1GB GDDR3, PCI-E x16, HDMI, DP
99$ http://www.zotacusa.com/zotac-geforce-gt...l-391.html

Total 726 $ (not including case)

I have the following concerns: I need a Serial port on my mainboard. In the specifications of the MB there is written, that onboard there is a "1 x COM connector" - is that a serial port? If yes, do i need something additional to use that as a serial port or does that normally come along with the mb?

The rest of this configuration has mainly been discussed already before - i hope it is able to play 1080p movies, at the same time as it provides "save" (right - everything is relative, and a mirrored disk is no replacement for a real backup) storage for my files. Do you think, i can achieve that with that system?

Much obliged for your help!

If it saids it has it and it doesn't show on the back panel, is probably one of those pin headers on the MB that uses an expansion plate to attach the serial port. It should be in the box, probably best to check package content.

Worst case scenario, there are USB to COM adapters which can provide the necessary connectivity.

Your setup looks great and it does make a lot of sense if you can manage with 2 or even 4TB of internal storage.

Heck, that will do more than 1080p. That will do 3D!

i would still go RAID5...
your ASUS mobo supports --> hardware RAID 0/1/5/10

... going for a hardware raid could end in a very nasty situation if the mainboard breaks down and cannot be replaced with one of the same type...
