Help me Build a Super Low Cost 4TB NAS :)

I still think highly of RAIDZ on a FreeNAS. Everyone has opinions! Sometimes it is best to see what works for you rather than hearing what works best for everyone else Smile

Most of your options have free versions and free trials. You can tinker with them all before you throw loads of data on the drives!

Best advice in the thread.

I was super skeptical of Unraid until messing with the free version convinced me. The only way to know what fits your needs is to research and try.

You are so right. Moving several TB of data is no joke and changing your mind mid-term is probably the worst situation you can put yourself into.

well so far, honestly,
if you go with a 3HDD+ array,
software unRAID on a seperate NAS rig is the way to go!!

but if going for a 2HHD array.
software RAID1 is more than adequate...
Specially if you dont want to build a seperate NAS rig....

sealed deal...
