[iPad] Drag and drop uploading media to the iPad?
#1
Question
I have XBMC running fine on my iPad. As others have mentioned it's a bit sluggish, and crashes occasionally, but perfectly usable. Switching to the PMIII.HD skin seems a bit smoother and it's certainly easier to scroll up and down large folders.

SMB sharing works perfectly, but has anyone figured out a pain free (drag and drop) way of transferring large files from a PC to a central media folder on the iPad, preferably without using the cancer which is iTunes?

And please don't suggest sending them through Drop Box or even Wi-Fi for that matter.

Thanks

If you have openssh installed on the iPad you can just use an FTP client that support SFTP to connect wirelessly to the iPad and drag and drop files that way. THere are also a number of programs for the PC that allow you to browse the iOS file system as long as the iPad is plugged into the computer. Not sure the names of any programs because I have a Mac. If, you do have a Mac, a great and free FTP program is Cyberduck, and a great iOS file explorer is iPhone Explorer.

Use iFunbox ( http://www.i-funbox.com/ ). Free Windows software...no installation and no setup required.

1. Just plug in the Apple USB cable and run iFunbox.
2. Navigate the "Raw File System" to the folder where you want to put your media. (I put mine in var/mobile/Media cause I want the folder to be shared with the VLC app.)
3. Drag and drop your media to the folder in iFunbox. Wait for it to transfer.

Remember to add that folder as a source in your XBMC app.

Perfect. This is the way to go.

Thanks!

With the limitation of media space on the iPad and the frustrating transfer times I ended up going a different route myself.

I got this device:

http://www.patriotmemory.com/product/det...74&type=19

I put in a 200 GB SSD and put all my kids tv shows and movies on it so now they can watch all their shows on the iPad in the car or when I am out to dinner transfer times are so much better it has a 5 hour battery for on the road use and it supports SMB shares.

I created a mobile profile on the iPads so when we are mobile they login as mobile and have access to this device.

I know this wasn't your question but figured I would give my 2 cents.
