XBMC explained

since there's no manual of xbmc yet, here's some information on how it works. this documentation will probably grow in time and end up into a nice manual sooner or later

in the first post i wanna discuss the new resolution switching of xbmc and the movie calibration.

dyamic resolution switching
let's assume you wanna play a movie and this movie is well lets say 576x304 pixels. xbmc gui is using 720x576 (on pal)

now when you play this movie, xbmp would simply scale up the image to fit the 720x576 screen depending on your zoom/stretch settings offcourse

xbmc on the other hand will automaticly switch to 640x480
since this is the best fit for a movie of 576x320.
so xbmc will look at your movie width/height and switches to the best resolution it can find.

besides this dynamic resolution switching, xbmc also uses pal60. so if your movie is encoded with 23.97 fps it will switch to pal60 for better / less jerky playback.
offcourse if your movie is encoded with 25 fps it will use pal50

(offcourse both can be switched on/off in the settings screen)

movie calibration

because xbmc automaticly switches to the best resolution you need to calibrate your screen for each resolution once.
how do you do this? here's how:
1. play your movie
2. go back to the ui
3. go into settings->screen->movie calibration
4. calibrate

thats it. its important however that you calibrate your screen while playing the movie because only then xbmc is using the chosen resolution.

keymappings while playing a video
while viewing a movie (fullscreen) you can do:

controller y
shows the movie information. like codecs used, frames rendered too early/late, cache etc et.

controller start and remote display
switches between zoom/stretch/normal and displays
the ar, video resolution and source/destination rectangles

dpad left/right and remote left/right
seek +/- 1 min

dpad up/down and remote up/down
seek +/- 10 min

controller back and remote info:
toggle osd mode (3 modes)

controller white and remote title
subtitles on/off

controller back and remote pause
toggle pause on/off

controller b:
toggle between the available subtitle languages
