Will try on 3GS in few days.

Sorry, iPhone 3g does not have armv7, only armv6. iphone 3gs does have an armv7 and it's been reported to work fine.

I think the issue is how sn0wbreeze patches the firmware. I did a bit of testing yesterday my ATV was originally flashed with pwnagetool everything ok. When I used sn0wbreeze Xbmc crashed everytime I opened it so I went about installing a vm then osx and ran pwnagetool again and Xbmc worked again

i am wondering if i can just restore with the custum ipsw downloaded from the web or i have to you pwnagetool over a vm machine.
were you able to restore with no error or you did not try it?

You use Pwnagetool to create the custom firmware.

Once you have the custom firmware, you simply use the latest iTunes to restore to your ATV2 while it is in DFU mode.

So in your case, if you already have the correct custom firmware downloaded from the web, you should be able to proceed with the restore from within iTunes without any problem.

Afterwards, you simply need an application that supports the ATV2 will aid the device to finish the tethered boot for you.

Before you restore in iTunes use ireb to get into owned dfu mode otherwise iTunes will error on you. Also you can only restore to 4.1 if you have your shsh blobs saved. If you do make sure you run tiny umbrella and start the TSS server before you open iTunes.

if i am not wrong here is the order of actions:

1. run tss server from tinyumbrela
2. enter atv2g to dfu mode
3. run ireb
4. restore using the custom ipsw downloadid (originally created by pwnagetool)
and to make sure the power cable is not connected the entire process

is that sound right?
thanks

Yep thats right but remember this method only works for 4.1 (aka 4.0) and relies on you have your shsh blobs saved if they are not saved you'll only be able to restore to 4.2.1 (aka 4.1.1) and you'll need to use another process after to tethered boot. Check the 1st page here for instructions on how to do it.
