[AppleTV2] Is a jailbroken ATV2 a jailbroken ATV2?
#1
I've noticed that http://ih8sn0w.com/ has created a jailbreak for ATV2 for Windows. Does i matter what jailbreak method is used, or will all jailbreaks make my ATV2 behave the same?

thanks for any answer.

check to see if that jailbreak is compatible with your appletv2 software version. I think the latest software (4.2.1/4.1.1) is not compatible. I had to borrow a friends mac to jailbreak mine with Seas0npass which is very simple but the downfall... you need a mac to jailbreak or tether it.

Hi mate when i jailbroke using Sn0wbreeze 2.1 on ATV firmware 4.0 (aka 4.1) it caused XBMC to crash on startup. I don't think i was the only one as someone else on here had the same issues. If you make a custom firmware with Pwnagetool or Seas0npass it seems to work fine. Do you know if you have your SHSH blobs saved for your ATV2 if you don't or have no idea what an SHSH blob is you'll have to follow the instructions at the beginning of this thread

sn0wbreeze does not support aTV2 4.2.1 at the moment.
Not sure if and when it will be released.
All I know is that the iphone dev team and chronic dev team are working on a 4.2.1 untethered JB for 4.2.1.
With iphone dev team using redsn0w, which also supports windows.

You can load the custom ipsw and boot in tethered mode with windows. The only thing you need a mac for is to create the custom ipsw. Usually these are found via google but not currently. I had a friend create the custom ipsw and send it to me.

From this thread it looks kinda difficult - and is not recommended... Looks like I've have to get me a Mac, or read some moreOo

How hard is it using a Mac? Is it as easy as the guide on iClarify.com (http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=13581)???

Thx.

The ATV2 is brand new - and not started up yet... Still waiting for my "flat to round" plug converter as it is imported from the US to Norway. Looks like it's a smart idea to check SW version before I start messing around with the box.

Seas0nPass current exist as a Mac only tool. The Win version isn't ready yet. With Seas0nPass, jailbreaking and tethered booting are very simple process.

The Win instruction is more complicated because the users have to work around the fact that RedSn0w doesn't currently recognize the ATV2 IPSW file. Hopefully they can update that soon so jailbreaking on the Win side is as effortless. Either that, or pray Seas0nPass for Win comes out soon.

How hard is it using a Mac? Depends on who you are.. i find it almost friggen impossible because i dont like the layout, functionality and design of Mac OS X... but others love it... Although i dont see how they love icons randomly bouncing around and jumping on the screen.. distracts the hell out of me...
