I have recently installed XMBC 10.0 on a Revo R3610 running windows 7. All my movies and TV shows are on a Micro Server running Unraid.

Before I was running all my movies through a WD HD TV Player with attached USB drives and all of the files worked fine. I ripe all my blurays and DVD's into MKV files.

One of the problems I have is that some of the files will output sound but no video. They also dont not display video if I play them through VLC player on the Revo. They do work on my WD player and on my old pc using VLC or media player so it a codec issue on the Revo?

XBMC doesn't use external codecs. I don't know if VLC uses external codecs, but I think not. It's more likely that there's something funny about the video coding that's upsetting ffmpeg. I believe both XBMC and VLC use the ffmpeg code.
