Thats what you get for trying to be too smart, I had a quick look through the xbmc.log and made an executive decision that it wasn't relevant.... Wink

Here you go....

Yup that is your problem... g will not be sufficent. You have to either go N or wired. Your network appears to be disconnecting and/or insufficent in the stream

Hmmm I don't believe this is the case. I've tried a number of different encodes of different films. Some buffer regularly, say every 5 - 10 minutes. But as I say, in this case (and in the case of two films I've tried now) the film has played for almost an hour perfectly and and then cut out suddenly.

Now, it is certainly lacking the bandwidth to fast forward or skip through the files appropriately, and indeed this does not work, when I try to skip at 16x the system locks up.

However, this would not explain why a file cannot resume at a certain point in time (ie, the bookmarked last timestamp when the playback stopped) as the file does not need to play through to resume.

It also does not explain the behaviour I have spoken about. If it was a bandwidth problem (which is entirely fixable by a suitable buffer; the apple rentals work perfectly by buffering before beginning playback, and while I presume they are a slightly lower throughput, they are still 720p high def) the file would continuously buffer every few seconds...not play for a certain amount of time and then cut out.....

This has been seen in dharma releases.. and is attributed to wireless networks.. it seems not only g but some n also, but the solution has been running a wire to the device.. i would just try a wire and see if it fixes it, if so there is a wireless network issue either with your network or xbmc

Could this be a issue with my access point? Come to think about it I've had a very similar issue with the PS3 stopping in the middle of some films sometimes. I didn't cotton on to the fact because they were low-def files and were able to resume straight away again....

It could be... with all the networks i have helped setup/optimize and routers i have dealt with... some wireless routers randomly drop the dhcp assignment and reissue it, others just randomly cycle themselves... Hell i had a wrt54gs with ddwrt functioning as a hub that decided to randomly lock up and reassign ip's although i disabled its dhcp function...
This is one reason when i bought my current house i dropped ethernet throughout and every room has a connection that then goes into my office and into the primary router... I also only use modified firmware and buy only routers capable of running either ddwrt or tomato...
